Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiysa Gorley.
Hi Kiysa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved music since I was born. It was always therapy for me, like journaling I could write how I was feeling and get my story out there. Anyway, I never actually did what it took to pursue that dream until I had my son. I wanted to show not only him, but the people around me to never give up on your dreams and that you could do anything you set your mind to. So I started putting myself out there and meeting other artists that have helped me get to where I am today. Now I perform in Salt Lake and I started an artist development program with Bentley Records. This is only the start of my story but I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve faced a lot of struggles throughout this journey. After I graduated I had my son which was the best thing that has ever happened to me, but the depression and emotions that came along with pregnancy really put up a big block that was hard to overcome. My relationship with his father didn’t work out either so that was hard. Along with my dad going through a divorce. He’s a disabled veteran so I help him as much as I can. I haven’t been very stable I’ve moved around a lot so it’s been hard to balance my time between working on music and providing stability for my son. I know I can do anything I set my mind to. These obstacles are just a part of life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist I sing and perform. I want to change people’s lives with messages through my music so that they can live a more fulfilling and happy life. I’m most proud of the way I’ve been able to keep pushing and following my dreams even with the struggles in my personal life. I think what sets me apart from others is that I look at life in a different way than a lot of people do. I’m very good at adapting, and accepting change, and I can get knocked down and keep going no matter what life throws at me.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think the most important characteristic of success is being humble and open to new ideas and people.
