Community Highlights: Meet Dustin Mattila of Crest Chiropractic PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Mattila.

Hi Dustin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a family of seven siblings, surrounded by hard work, creativity, and a strong sense of togetherness. My father was a carpenter by trade who eventually worked his way into construction management and later started his own construction company. My mother was equally hardworking, dedicating herself full-time to raising our large, active family.
From a young age, my brothers and I were often helping my dad with building projects. I learned how to work with my hands, how to problem-solve, and how to take pride in a job well done. We were all active kids, constantly involved in sports and outdoor activities, and—because I had a brother just older and just younger than me—everything became a competition. Those early years shaped who I would become: hardworking, active, and always striving to be better.
Chiropractic care became part of our lives long before I ever considered it a career. My grandfather was a cement mason who understood the importance of keeping his body aligned if he wanted to work a long, healthy career. He saw firsthand how chiropractic care helped him stay strong and mobile, and he passed that understanding on to our entire family. Regular chiropractic visits simply became part of our lifestyle.
As I moved into college, my path became clearer. I was drawn to the natural sciences, fascinated by health and the human body, and I loved working with my hands. Meanwhile, my older brother enrolled in chiropractic school and thrived. Seeing his passion sparked my own, and I realized: if one Mattila chiropractor could strengthen our family and community, two could only make a bigger impact. So I followed him into chiropractic school—and I never looked back.
After graduating, I spent my first year practicing alongside my brother in St. Michael, Minnesota. It was a memorable time full of learning and laughter as we treated families and athletes in our community.
In 2010, I married my best friend, Kaija. We relocated to Michigan where I spent 15 years building a busy, family and sports focused chiropractic clinic in Farmington. Over those years, we were blessed with six wonderful, active children. As a family, we love skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and camping—activities that became central to our lifestyle.
About eight years ago, my wife and I began asking a simple question: If we could live anywhere, where would it be? It started as a dream-board conversation, something lighthearted at first—but it slowly became real. We both love the mountains, the outdoors, the energy of community-focused cities, and the lifestyle that comes with all of that. Utah stood above the rest as the clear winner.
But making that dream a reality meant enormous change—selling a business, transitioning careers, selling a home, downsizing, moving six kids, and then starting a brand-new practice in a brand-new state. It required planning, sacrifice, courage—and most importantly, prayer. We relied on God every step of the way, and doors opened one by one.
Today, we are grateful beyond words to say that we are living where we once only dreamed of living. My wife has been able to continue her work remotely, our children are thriving in their new schools, and together we have opened our new practice—Crest Chiropractic—right here in Orem. We love the community of Orem and everything it has to offer.
We are truly excited to serve this community. Our goal is to provide high-quality chiropractic care for families, athletes, and anyone who wants to move better, feel better, and live a healthier, more active life. We feel honored and blessed to build our life and our practice here—and we look forward to caring for the people of Orem for many years to come.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Transitioning out of a chiropractic clinic comes with its own unique set of challenges. We weren’t simply selling a business—we were passing on relationships, trust, and a standard of care that had been built over years. Finding the right buyer required someone who was not only licensed to practice in Michigan, but who also shared the same philosophy of patient-centered care and had the skillset to serve the community well.

Additionally, the buyer needed to feel that the practice model and terms aligned with their goals, and we needed the transition to feel right for our patients and staff. On top of that, there were contractual obligations and timelines we were committed to, which meant we couldn’t move as quickly as we might have hoped. The process required patience, careful planning, and trust that things would come together in the right time.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Crest Chiropractic, our mission is simple: to help people move, feel, and live better so they can stay active in the lives they love. Whether it’s an athlete pushing for peak performance, a parent keeping up with kids, or anyone committed to long-term wellness, we meet each patient where they are and support them with care that’s both effective and individualized.

Our practice is rooted in the belief that movement is medicine and that the spine and nervous system are the foundation of whole-body health. We look at the body as an integrated system—evaluating posture, muscle balance, joint mechanics, nerve health, and lifestyle factors—to understand why pain or dysfunction is occurring, not just where it hurts. We live this philosophy ourselves, staying active through skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and strength training, and bring that lived perspective into the way we care for our patients.

Crest Chiropractic offers a range of treatments designed to improve mobility, reduce pain, and support long-term function. We use precise, hands-on chiropractic adjustments, including Diversified and Thompson Technique, to restore proper alignment and movement in the spine and extremities. For soft tissue injuries and chronic pain, we provide Shockwave Therapy, a state-of-the-art, non-invasive treatment that stimulates tissue repair and helps patients avoid surgery or prolonged downtime. It has proven benefits for conditions such as frozen shoulder, rotator cuff dysfunction, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, golfers elbow, tennis elbow and achilles tendinopathy.

We also offer non-surgical spinal decompression, a gentle and highly effective therapy for disc bulges, herniations, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease—helping many patients find relief when other treatments have failed. To support stability and long-term progress, our services include corrective exercise programs, custom foot orthotics, and high-quality professional-grade nutritional supplements through Nutridyn and Re-Lyte.

Ultimately, our goal is to provide athlete-level care for every body—helping our patients move with confidence, reduce pain naturally, and enjoy a healthier, more active life.
