Conversations with Darby Richards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darby Richards.

Hi Darby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a junior in High School and one night I was laying in bed and I got the strongest feeling that I needed to start a YouTube Channel, so I did! It never went crazy viral or got a million subscribers, but I did make a difference to young girls like me. I showed them that they could be who they wanted to be and accomplish what they wanted to accomplish. I was a role model for them. While I was a senior, I started working more on Instagram and TikTok, and I reached a decent following on TikTok of 40,000 followers. This allowed me to spread light, positivity, and joy on social media. After I graduated, I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My mission was the greatest thing to ever happen to me. One way in specific that it impacted me was that I grew my knowledge of social media more than ever before. I was a social media specialist for the last 9 months of my mission. I learned how to advertise on Facebook and how to lead a mission in their social media efforts. Now, I am home and I am working as a social media manager. I am so grateful for God and for the prompting from Him 4 years ago to start a YouTube Channel. I know that if I never had followed that, I would be nowhere near where I am today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most definitely not. In High School, I dealt with a lot hate. People would gossip and say mean things about my social media platforms. And this carried on into my mission. My missionary peers sometimes may not have agreed with the way I lead social media in the mission or maybe they saw me as the stereotypical “Social Media Specialist” and didn’t have respect for me in that way. And now, managing social media is not easy. Not easy at all. But we do it because we love it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As of right now, I am a Social Media Manager, and in this particular role with this company, I am the videographer and editor for Holiday Light Products. I specialize in Content Creation – Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook Ads, Subject & Product Photography/Videography, Clothing Modeling, Graphic Design, and Copy Writing. I am most proud of my travel/adventure video creations that I have showcased on my Instagram Page. What sets me apart is that I am an all-around person. I do it all. I post anything from topics of cooking, spirituality, and travel, to dancing. I love everything. And with that, I am personable. Personable in person and online.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Jesus matters most to me. He is the reason for everything good in life.
