Conversations with Tyree Lamph

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyree Lamph.

Hi Tyree, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are commercial paleontologists..
We dig and sell fossils and dinosaurs that we prepare, restore and mount at our shop.
We take them to large shows all over the world to sell and in doing so we bring back truck loads of rocks crystals, and minerals from everywhere to sell at our rock shop.
Our rock shop Utah Dump Digger. Is the biggest rock shop in Utah and is a true rock shop not just a crystal store.
As a kid growing up with my father I would stop with him at small rock shops in every town in Utah. Those shops are all but gone so we had to bring the old style rock shops back.
We specialize in dinosaurs but are also a huge supplier for lapidary rough, equipment and everything you can think of.
We buy and liquidate hundreds of rock collection estates and have everything from common material to rare old stock material showing up all the time.
We love families and kids and our shop makes for the perfect family outing or date.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Commercial paleo is tough. It is a ton of work and unfortunately academics don’t like us much.
We feel we are saving fossils from weathering and destruction while they feel we are taking them from the public.
Finding private land where we can legally collect fossils is me of the hardest parts.
The big secret is dinosaurs aren’t rare but where we can dig them is.
We’ve also had a lot of work and struggles just building Inventory. We feel we have the biggest I ve Tory in Utah but it has taken a lot of time and resources to get to that point.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We have dug fairly complete dinosaurs that ended up in museums and have been important to science.
We also dig common dinosaurs and partial bones that really have no interest to science and the average collector can buy.
We feel every science classroom in america should have a dinosaur bone in it. We Donte to schools and small local Museums to try to help educate and get the word out.
One of our favorite sayings is this rock, fossil ect is 20 minutes away from the tv and electronics for a kid. Get them outside. Let them explore learn and run wild a bit.
Our shop is known across the USA and out of the country try for having such a huge diversity of materials. People stop by on vacation as we have become a destination location so they can see the dinosaur bones and dig through the rock piles.

What’s next?
We are hoping to expand a parking lot and bring in more containers for shelving to show a lot of the larger material people don’t get to see that take up a lot of room,, large petrified wood rounds, big dinosaur bones, minerals ect
We hope to have that expansion done shortly.
