I was going to school for art education when a friend convinced me to sell my artwork at in Artist Alley and SLC Comic Con. I fell in love with the festival atmosphere and the excitement of sharing my work with others. Although I finished my degree and was even offered a teaching position, I knew my heart was elsewhere. My husband and I have been a team in this since the beginning and have grown our family and business simultaneously.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a bumpy road. The hardest part was at the beginning when I left my career that for something that seemed so unstable. I was living with my parents for a brief time and they really questioned the decisions I was making in life. it took a lot of trial and error to figure out what worked for us and once We figured it out it changes. Rejection is common in this field and you have to have tough skin.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work has evolved over time, but my subject matter has remained the same. I have been painting animals in a colorful and playful way for over 10 years. In the last couple of years, I have expanded that to include landscapes. Lately, what sets me apart besides my vibrant use of color, is my creative approach to incorporating texture using unconventional and often recycled materials.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My resilience and determination are my two most important qualities. I find these qualities are important for both personal and professional success. It’s easy to lose motivation, especially when faced with challenges, but my resilience and determination help me bounce back from setbacks, keep going, and achieve goals.
