Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Da Silva.
Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Lighthouse Counseling Services began in 2013 as a solo private practice founded by Laura da Silva with the vision of creating a safe, compassionate space where individuals, of all ages, and families could find healing, hope, and connection. What started as one therapist with a passion for helping others has steadily grown into a collaborative mental health practice serving children, teens, adults, couples, and families.
Over the years, Lighthouse expanded its services, welcomed student interns to help train future therapists. Alongside therapy services, Lighthouse has continued to grow through community education and podcast outreach.
At the heart of Lighthouse Counseling is the belief that healing happens through connection, compassion, and creating a space where people feel truly seen and supported.
A lighthouse does not reach out and rescue the sailor; instead, it provides guidance and direction. The sailor must choose whether to follow the light. In the same way, as mental health clinicians, we strive to provide guidance, support, and hope to those we serve as they navigate their own journey toward healing. This is why our company is called Lighthouse Counseling Services.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape who we are today. Lighthouse Counseling grew quickly, largely through word-of-mouth referrals, which has always meant so much to us because it reflects the trust our clients and community place in our team.
One of the biggest challenges came during the pandemic. Like many practices, we had to rapidly adapt to telehealth while our clients were already navigating heightened anxiety, uncertainty, and isolation. It was a learning curve for both therapists and clients, but we worked through it together. Our team stayed committed to creating connection and support, even through a screen, and that experience ultimately strengthened both our practice and our relationships with clients.
As Lighthouse has continued to grow, we’ve learned how important adaptability, teamwork, and community support truly are. Every obstacle has pushed us to grow stronger and continue finding new ways to serve the people who trust us with their care.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lighthouse Counseling Services?
What makes our work unique is our highly collaborative model. Our therapists do not work in isolation—we intentionally share a central workspace where we consult, brainstorm, and support one another in real time. This allows us to bring multiple perspectives to client care and ensures that clients benefit from the collective wisdom of the team, not just one clinician.
We are also very intentional about the client experience within our space. Each session room is designed to feel warm, comfortable, and home-like—more like sitting in a trusted friend’s living room than a clinical office. We believe the environment is an extension of the therapeutic relationship, and it should feel safe, grounding, and human.
Our approach is rooted in deep clinical care, but delivered in a way that feels relational and accessible. We specialize in supporting individuals and families through anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, parenting stress, neurodiversity (including autism), and complex life transitions such as grief and cancer journeys.
What we are most proud of is the culture we’ve built—one where collaboration is not just encouraged, but embedded into how we operate every day. It allows us to show up more fully for our clients and create a level of care that feels both personalized and supported by a strong clinical community behind it.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
One thing that truly sets Lighthouse apart is that clients do not just get one therapist—they get the support and collective knowledge of an entire clinical team. While each therapist builds their own strong therapeutic relationship with clients, there is also a collaborative system in place that allows for shared insight, consultation, and encouragement behind the scenes.
We have intentionally built a team culture where therapists are continuously learning, supporting one another, and working together to provide the best possible care for our clients.
Behind the scenes, we have weekly in-house trainings, weekly supervision, and ongoing collaboration between clinicians to ensure our therapists feel supported, informed, and equipped. We believe quality care requires continual growth, consultation, and connection within the team—not therapists working in isolation.
We believe that when therapists feel supported, clients feel supported too, and that culture of collaboration has become one of the strongest foundations of our practice.
