Hidden Gems: Meet Les Rhodes of Les bbq

Today we’d like to introduce you to Les Rhodes

Hi Les , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The idea of Les bbq started back in Texas where we would get together on the weekend after footballs games and gather as friends and family to smoke bbq. We have been doing that for a long time and people would come to try and have our food.
After hurricane harvey came through we had to relocate to Tooele where my wife had family and I continued perfecting my craft on the weekends while working for rio tinto during the week.
Eventually I started my social media channels to share what I was doing and grow the brand. We had some videos go viral and we had lots of viewers all over the country ask if we could ship them the oxtail, the brisket and most everything we smoked.
My wife Chanel and I figured out how to ship it all over and the brand grew faster than we could keep up with.
In a little over a year from some of those first videos on social media we decided to open a restaurant concept in Draper a few months ago and the response has been overwhelming.
We have been growing our team to keep up with the demand and Utah has loved what we bring them everyday. The “Texas in everwayyy” style of bbq has been taking SLC by storm and we plan on keep doing what we do best.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ain’t nothing been smooth and we have learned a lot each day and week seems like there is another land mine.
Having a big demand and following has pushed us to be better and level up our business to keep up.
Some days it don’t seem like anything goes right and we just keep getting up and pushing along when the punches come.
That’s “Texas in everywayyy” and think everyone has a little bit of that in them, them storms are gonna keep on coming and we gonna keep on going

We’ve been impressed with Les bbq , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We smoke the finest meats in our “Texas in everywayyy” style
Folks can get our meats online from our website and shipped straight to their front door
Or come on down to the restaurant if they’re in SLC.
Recently we opened up our catering and that’s been taking off too.

Seems like folks around Utah want what we got and they should know we have the highest expectations on ourselves and what we smoke.

All our staff loves the work they do and seeing the faces of our customers when they bite into our oxtail, or brisket or chicken
