Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolle Pando.
Hi Nicolle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story starts 6 years ago when I told my parents I wanted to be successful in a different country. They were scared to let me go so young, but they supported me and my dreams.
I got here when I was seventeen with a lot of goals in mind, but I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I had to be positive every single day. Years passed, and life was a rollercoaster of hard trials along with some of the best times of my life. That helped me become the person that I am now.
Coming from Peru and not knowing the language and the culture was a big challenge for me and did not make things easy. Any foreigner will tell you that leaving everything you once knew and having to relearn everything is anything but easy. Adapting to the new language of English while trying to understand the culture here was something I really had to work on and slowly start to understand.
Even though it was so hard to understand all the grammar and pronunciation I kept pushing myself to better understand how to speak the foreign language of English. After 2 semesters at UVU, I was able to finish it. I am still not perfect at it, but my husband helps me each and everyday to become better at it.
My mom and dad have been my biggest supporters since day one. My husband has also been one of my biggest fans and has always seen my potential. One great support to me that I also feel deserves a lot of credit are the many friends I consider family here in Utah. They were always supporting me and helping me through many of the different trials I endured here and deserve much of the credit that makes up my story.
