Meet Jarom Johnson of Bridgewater Design + Build

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarom Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After serving in the military, I began my career in construction. I worked as an installer for a millwork, trim, and door company, then as a business manager for an excavation and development firm, and later as a project manager for a homebuilder. These experiences eventually led me to start my own business as a general contractor.

My first project under Bridgewater Design + Build was a bathroom remodel, and from there, I naturally gravitated toward remodeling and additions. Since then, we’ve managed construction for a wide range of interior and exterior remodels, as well as numerous home additions.

At Bridgewater Design + Build, we specialize in design-build projects, partnering with clients from the initial planning and design phase all the way through construction and final completion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Fortunately, it’s been a smooth road for us. We’ve only been in business for a year and a half, so there’s still time for struggle to come our way, but we’ve been fortunate to hit the ground running for the most part.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bridgewater Design + Build. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a residential construction company specializing in remodeling and additions. As a Design + Build contractor, we place a strong emphasis on thorough design and planning upfront to minimize surprises, reduce delays, and ensure a smoother experience throughout construction.

At Bridgewater Construction, we see ourselves as your building partner—not just your contractor. Our goal is to be on the same team with you from day one. It’s not you versus us to get the project done; it’s us and you, together, against the challenges of the project. We succeed when you feel supported, understood, and confident in every step of the process.

We also offer free design consultations to anyone interested in improving their home. Whether you’re exploring ideas or ready to start, we’re happy to provide guidance from both a design and construction perspective—at no obligation.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I like to think of both myself and the business as fairly risk-averse. We’ve had opportunities to participate in spec homes and other small development projects, but most of them felt too aggressive and risky given the market conditions and the overall risk-to-reward ratio. I believe that taking on risk can be a powerful way to grow a business exponentially—but only when the potential rewards clearly outweigh the downside. For us, the right opportunities are those that offer a balanced and strategic level of risk, with the potential for outsized returns.
