Meet Rachel Dantona of Bend, Oregon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Dantona.

Rachel , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Welcome to Hiker Booty, Where we help you discover outdoor treasures through out the United States.
“We are putting the ART in cARTography”. Our watercolor hand drawn maps are thoughtfully curated and include National Parks, State Parks, Public Lands, popular outdoor attractions, wildlife, marine life, trees, flowers, waterways and so much more!
Every state has something special to offer and we would like to celebrate that.

In 2015, Rachel completed her thru hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. Shortly after, she created a map of the 2,655 mile National Scenic Trail to commemorate this experience for the thru hiking community. This included Resupply stops, public lands, National Parks, trail angels & more. Memorabilia if you will! To her surprise, this souvenir map was a success.
From there she hired on another artist, Brian McGregor to join her team. Since 2018 this duo as been working hard in the studio to create more art/products.
It is important to both of us that we highlight our outdoor spaces so that we can petition to preserve and protect them.
Brian and myself are avid outdoor enthusiasts, residents in the Pacific Northwest, animal lovers and classically trained College graduates of Fine Art.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are the definition of a small business. We are duo working diligently in and outside of the studio. We are wearing all the hats! We are marketing, accounting, artists, advertising and outreach, trade show attendees, packaging, shipping, The list goes on- you name it! “What is a weekend?” As the late Dame Maggie Smith would say.

Map making is a very niche style and we are taking a huge leap of faith that they resonate with every demographic.
Right now our biggest challenge is getting our small shop on everyones radar nationwide. We travel through out the Pacific Northwest attending Tradeshows and putting the word out as best we can. We are thrilled our attendance at tradeshows have been a huge success! But we would like to see our products sold in stores. You see, if we have our products in the wholesale world we will have more time in the studio to create ! And Our goal is to complete all the states in America. After that? …well, the list of magical artistic fun is endless.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Watercolor pen and ink hand drawings of America’s States, National Parks, Landscapes and Public Lands
We have expanded our line of artwork! We now create and Animal Paw Print Chart, Wildflower Charts, Tree Charts, Mountain Ranges and mosic style landscapes!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
