Rising Stars: Meet Madelyn Giaimo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madelyn Giaimo.

Hi Madelyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For as long as I can remember, I was obsessed with photography. Almost every birthday I would ask for a camera and had built up a pretty good collect of point and shoots that were all filled with pictures of family birthdays and photo evidence of trouble my siblings and I would get into. After getting my first job at the local candy store, I saved every penny and bought my first “professional” camera. Immediately I wanted to learn everything I could so I also bought several different class subscriptions and flew through them. The issue with wanting to learn everything about photography is every class costs money and I wasn’t making a lot. That’s when Memories by Madelyn was born. I figured what better way to fund my creative curiosity than to make it work for me. I started off taking pictures of fellow classmates when they would graduate and slowly moved to families and now I do it all, families, seniors, weddings, you name it!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I wish! I think the biggest struggle was keeping my business a priority. I started officially my sophomore year of high school and as everyone knows life just gets busier from there. So between applying for college, sports, academics and then starting college, it really wasn’t a priority for about two years and it suffered because of that. I still had jobs every once in a while but it wasn’t as regular as I am now.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love portraiture. I really do believe every person is unique and beautiful in their own way and if I can capture that and make people feel that about themselves, nothing to me could be more rewarding. I also just think people are interesting to look at! There are so many different emotions and stories that you can tell as a photographer if you can make a connection with the person whose story you’re telling. I think I’m most proud of my ability to make people love getting their pictures taken. I try to make it a positive experience every time and that definitely shows in my work. If I am best known for anything it’s probably my love for face shots. My clients always become quick friends because we do get up close and personal to get that perfect shot!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
With the way technology is advancing, anyone can be a photographer! Starting out is so hard and frustrating, but in the end, you will be able to look back and see yourself getting better and nothing is a more rewarding feeling than watching yourself progress.
