Rising Stars: Meet Olivia Miller of Salt Lake City, UT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Miller.

Hi Olivia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Fort Wayne, IN, and spent my life training to be a professional ballerina. I moved to Salt Lake City in 2009 to attend the Ballet Department (now the School of Dance) at the University of Utah. Upon graduating in 2013, I moved to Saint Louis, MO to dance with a small ballet company, and achieved my goal of dancing professionally. After three seasons, I felt that it was time to move on and start a new chapter, and I moved back to Salt Lake City in the summer of 2016 and married my husband in 2017. Since moving back, I say that I have lived many different lives in terms of careers. I have taught barre at Pure Barre Park City and worked at Cake Boutique in Park City, knowing deep down there was always something more that I was searching for. And I have found that here at A Line Boutique! Karmen, the owner and CEO, reached out to me and definitely peaked my interest in working as a personal stylist. When A Line announced they were hiring for their Salt Lake City location, it was a no brainer. The rest is history!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Once I retired from dancing, I felt as though I lost a sense of my identity and immediately jumped into trying to figure out who I was without ballet. I was never the favorite student or the creme de la creme, but I had strong technique and perseverance, and I believed that would take me far. And while it did, letting it all go was a loss. I spent so much of my life being known as “Olivia the dancer” or “Olivia the ballerina”, that I didn’t fully know who “Olivia” was because I was always identified by my career and my passion. I taught yoga, barre, and ballet classes to children, because I thought I needed to be constantly moving like I had been my whole life. I found I got burnt out quickly, and knew that was not the life I was meant to lead. I eventually began working at Cake Boutique in Park City and thought it was the missing piece to the puzzle. I have always loved fashion, getting dressed, and putting together outfits, and to be in a more high end space was a dream come true. At the end of the day, I wanted an opportunity for growth and I spent some time figuring out what I liked best about my job at Cake, all of which are things I am so blessed to get to do everyday at A Line.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am one of three personal stylists at A Line Boutique in Salt Lake City. We take the time to get to know each and every client when they walk through the door; everything from what they do for work, favorite colors to wear, silhouettes they like an dislike, so we can curate a fitting room that is perfectly tailored to them. I love being in the fitting room as much as possible to help come up with additional outfit ideas, but also to figure out what styles are working, which are not, what brands are they gravitating towards. My goal is to make sure every client leaves feeling excited to wear their new pieces, no matter how long it takes. We offer free alterations, beverages while you shop, and an environment that is so fun and enjoyable you will not want to leave. The work does not stop once the client leaves. We send texts, photos, and videos to them of new arrivals that we think they might like and will add value to their closet. And vice versa. Clients reach out to us all the time to ask if we have a specific item in stock or if we have anything that would work for them for a specific event. It’s ultimately about helping each and every person look and feel their best and curating a wardrobe that fits their lifestyle and their personality. We also offer to help with a closet clean out at their home and vacation packing and outfit planning, because sometimes we all just need a helping hand. And as bonus, all of this is no charge to the client!

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me the happiest is seeing someone light up the second they put an outfit on that they feel utterly fabulous in! Their joy, their smiles, are infectious and it makes me feel so good to see someone so happy. Shopping for some people is not an enjoyable experience, and if I can help make the process easier and more fun, than that is what matters most to me. Every person is beautiful and I love helping them showcase that through their clothes and their outfits. It sounds so silly, but it is so true, when you look good, you feel good. I love seeing people leave so happy and so excited about their pieces, but I also love seeing friendships form while people are shopping. A Line Boutique is known for its emphasis on creating a community, and so witness connections and bonds forming is such a beautiful thing and I cannot wait to continue to help grow our Salt Lake City community even more. It’s hard not to leave every day with a smile knowing that we are making people’s lives a little brighter and a little easier every day.
