Hidden Gems: Meet Janelle Maxwell of MaxWell Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Maxwell

Hi Janelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2012 I was in a minor fender bender but found myself struggling with extreme back pain. I tried all the usual care I knew about, got checked out by my doctor and was doing chiropractic care and the pain was not letting up. My roommate at the time recommended I see her massage therapist so I figured I’d give that a try. This was my very first CranioSacral Therapy appointment. I was amazed that I had so much pain relief from just one session! I was hooked. I enrolled in massage school in 2014 to begin my own career. In 2019 I began studying CranioSacral Therapy (CST) with the Upledger Institute International (UII). This just so happened to also be the year that my dad unexpectedly and tragically passed away. It was a very difficult time for me and I was amazed at how much CranioSacral therapy supported my healing journey. It was an invaluable aid in my emotional recovery due to how much it supported my nervous system in such an intense time of my life. Since that first class with UII in 2019 I have gone on to complete both of their certification levels – a very rigorous testing process for each, to become a Teaching Assistant for their classes, and to be an apporved study group leader for other practitioners as they practice their CST skills. I now run my practice out of my home and see people of all ages from infants up. I aid babies with cholic, breastfeeding, and bonding. I see kids for the hard head hits, ADHD, and sensory processing. I see teenage athletes to help them recover and maintain or increase performance. And I see adults for all types of issues from chronic pain, concussion recovery and trauma recovery to aging more gently. I love what I do and how much it can help people!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggles along the way for me have been in learning the business skill set. I’ve moved my practice a few times over the years and that for me came with challenges and opportunities of rebuilding with each move. I’ve had to learn not only business management skills but overcome my fear of public speaking and presenting. It has been a lot of growth opportunities in stepping outside my comfort zone to meet new people and learn and develop new skills.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MaxWell Massage?
I’m a Diplomate Certified CranioSacral Therapist through the Upledger Institute International and I only offer CranioSacral Therapy services in my practice. While I enjoy working with all populations, I specialize in working with trauma, birth trauma, and concussion recovery.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to always trust what I find in the body. I’m here to support and facilitate. The body really does know what it needs to heal if we can provide it with what it is asking for.
