Meet Montana Page of Yellow Balloon Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Montana Page

Hi Montana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been a professional chef for ten years this next January. I attended culinary school at Mountainland Applied Technical College from 2015 to 2017. While attending school, I fell in love with baking. I loved the science behind it. The way certain ingredients interact with others to create the structure and flavor of a certain food item really got my creative juices flowing. In December of 2019 we lost our twelve year old son Peyton to a congenital heart defect. The following August would have been his thirteenth birthday and we had a party/memorial for him. As part of the party, we had a balloon release where everyone got to write a message to Peyton on their balloon and then released it. My baking instructor from school had gotten to know our family very well and loved Peyton. She wrote a poem about releasing balloons to Heaven called Yellow Balloon and that’s where the name of our bakery comes from.

We officially opened our bakery in July of 2021 and have been busy ever since. When I say “we” I mean my wife Melanie and I.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Things have gone pretty well throughout the process. Like other food establishments, we had to tweak ingredients here and there to get things just right, but over all it’s been pretty smooth.

We’ve been impressed with Yellow Balloon Bakery, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We run everything out of our home. We have professional equipment that allows us to make baked goods in large quantities and in a timely manner. Our “bread and butter” is probably our dinner rolls and sweet rolls. What sets us apart from others is that we are not afraid to try something different. If someone comes to us with a request or an idea, we ask them to give us some time and then work on it until we get it right. We love a good challenge. The thing that we are most proud of brand wise is that our business has heart. We literally love what we do and why we do it. I think the thing that I most want the readers to know is that we love to bake and that we love to try new things. We also like to honor our past by making traditional baked goods. That can be seen by just looking at our website and reading our story and the items we offer.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We are a very musical family. My wife plays the piano, teaches piano, and plays piano for our church choir. I love to sing, listen to music, and music history. All of our boys are musically talented. They all play stringed instruments and sing.
