Conversations with Avery Blanco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Blanco

Avery, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My photography journey started back in high school when I joined the yearbook team. At first, it was just a fun way to hang out with my best friend, but I quickly realized how much I loved capturing moments. In 2014, my dad gave me my first camera for Christmas, and that’s when my passion really took off. For years, I kept it as a hobby—taking pictures of family and friends whenever I could.

Then in 2018 I met my husband, who became my biggest cheerleader. He was the first person to tell me I could actually make a living doing what I love. His belief in me planted the seed, but it wasn’t until we had our daughter in 2023 that I finally decided to take the leap and go full-time.

Starting a business came with its challenges, especially building a clientele and finding my place in such a competitive field. I poured my heart into every session, focused on creating a unique and meaningful experience for my clients, and slowly but surely, my business grew.

In 2024, I hit an incredible milestone—working with 106 amazing clients! Every session reminded me why I love this work so much: capturing authentic, timeless moments that families will treasure forever.

Looking back on where I started, I’m so grateful for the struggles and the growth. They’ve shaped me as a photographer and as a person. I’m beyond excited to see what 2025 holds as I continue to create and connect with even more incredible families.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road—starting and growing a business always comes with its challenges. One of the biggest struggles was building my clientele in the beginning. It’s not easy to put yourself out there, especially when you’re just starting and still figuring out your style and workflow. There were moments of self-doubt, wondering if I could really make this work or if people would even book me.

Another challenge was balancing everything as a mom and a business owner. When I decided to go full-time in 2023 after having my daughter, I had to learn how to manage my time between being present for her and growing my business. It’s a constant juggling act, but I’ve found so much joy and purpose in both roles.

I’ve also faced technical and creative struggles—like finding my editing style, dealing with the occasional gear malfunction, and learning how to handle feedback. Each challenge pushed me to grow and refine my process, and I’m so thankful for those learning moments.

While the road hasn’t been smooth, it’s been worth every bump along the way. Every struggle has taught me something, and seeing my business grow, especially hitting the milestone of 106 clients this year, reminds me why I love what I do. It’s a journey, and I’m grateful for all of it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in family and motherhood photography, with a focus on capturing authentic, storytelling moments. My sessions are designed to feel natural and full of connection—more like a fun, relaxed experience than a formal photoshoot. I love using prompts and activities that bring out real emotions and let families be themselves in front of the camera.

What I’m most proud of is the way I’ve been able to build a style that feels timeless and personal. I want my clients to look at their photos years down the road and still feel the same emotions they did during the session. It’s all about preserving those fleeting, meaningful moments in a way that feels true to them.

What sets me apart is the storytelling approach I bring to my work. I focus on crafting sessions that go beyond just pretty poses—I want every image to tell a story and reflect who my clients really are. I also make the planning process easy and fun, from helping with styling to creating a vision that fits their personality.

Another thing that makes my work unique is my editing style, which is warm, true-to-color, and just a little moody. I aim for a timeless look that complements the emotions in the photos without overpowering them.

Overall, my goal is to create more than just beautiful images—I want the entire experience to feel effortless, meaningful, and unforgettable for my clients.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is the value of trusting the process. Building a business, especially one as personal as photography, takes time, patience, and a lot of trial and error. There were moments when I doubted myself or felt like I wasn’t moving fast enough, but I’ve come to realize that every step—big or small—has been part of my growth.

I’ve also learned the importance of connection. Photography isn’t just about taking pictures; it’s about building relationships and making people feel comfortable and seen. The more I focus on truly understanding my clients and their stories, the more meaningful my work becomes.

Another big lesson has been learning to embrace imperfection. Not every session or photo will be flawless, and that’s okay. Sometimes the most imperfect moments are the ones that hold the most heart and authenticity.

Lastly, I’ve realized that staying true to my own style and vision is key. It’s easy to compare yourself to others, but the more I’ve leaned into what makes my work unique, the more fulfilled I’ve felt. Trusting myself and my journey has made all the difference.
