Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Kirkpatrick
Hi Blake, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I fell in love with the area surrounding Blue Valley early in life and have always been drawn back to it. I’ve lived, worked, and played throughout the desert here, and running my own business full-time in the remote area has been a dream of mine for a decade. Today I have a great team behind me and a very exciting set of plans bringing that dream to life through our family business, Mesa View Oasis.
My partner Blaze and I have teamed up with my Mom and Stepfather (Kristin and David) to turn a 50 acre site into a functioning homestead and adventure park resort.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Blaze and I took a huge leap of faith by leaving our jobs to scout for the perfect deal and modifying our business plan along the way. We traveled countless hours, had deals slip through our fingers, made friends and connections, took on work for ourselves and the business, and eventually closed a deal on a piece of land perfectly fit for everything we hope to achieve.
We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we couldn’t be more excited to share our brand and our land with our Utah neighbors and visitors.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There hasn’t been a single part of the process that was easy. Every step has a roadblock. Every path leads to a fork in the road. Every decision has consequences. Every ah-ha moment leads to a long wait in line or unexpected expense. Even still, the hardest part of the entire journey was the decision to put everything into the dream and go for it.
There are all sorts of businesses you can start from home or enter with a low risk, but you truly have to believe in yourself and your vision when you or your family are putting everything on the line for it.
The ride we’ve taken so far would not be for those with a weak stomach.
I wouldn’t recommend diving into something like this without doing a lot of research beforehand, as one mistake in planning can set you back beyond your means.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mesa View Oasis, LLC?
Mesa View Oasis is a family-owned homestead and adventure park currently under construction between Hanksville and Capitol Reef National Park. We have a lot of exciting things planned. We’ll have our own line of handmade goods and souvenirs, freshly made food and drinks, on-site greenhouse space, accomodations and attractions for travelers, bike rentals and other adventure opportunities for thrill-seekers, and other fun things planned.
We’re a small team working to bring it all together piece by piece as quickly as all the variables allow us to. Our goal is to operate at least one aspect of our business through the 2025 tourism season as an introduction to our brand while we continue to grow. We have some exciting brand partnerships and upcoming things to share with everyone!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to share your dreams and vision with successful people around you. They might not understand or encourage you fully, but their perspective or doubts can help you find room to improve something you’ve overthought. Always use doubt as fuel and don’t take feedback personal. If your dream involves real estate, make sure your agent is excited about your vision as much as the deal. A dedicated agent can connect you with people that solve problems well beyond closing a deal on a piece of land.
