Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramon Somoza
Hi Ramon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I would say my journey is one of ambition, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to my vision. Growing up in Southern California during the 1980s and 1990s, I developed a strong work ethic and discipline early on. I earned a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Southern California, which laid the foundation for a dynamic career in business and real estate.
Shortly after graduation, I co-founded a landscaping and construction business, gaining hands-on experience in building and development. In 2003, a fellow USC alumnus introduced me to commercial real estate, and I quickly found my stride. During the real estate boom in 2005, my family and I relocated to Utah, where I became the Director of Finance for American Heritage Schools while simultaneously obtaining my real estate license. My rapid success as a Realtor propelled me into the world of startups, where I began launching and investing in new ventures. Over the years, I have successfully founded and operated multiple businesses while remaining deeply involved in commercial real estate investments.
As the visionary behind 501K, I am not only an entrepreneur but also a lifelong learner. From my Provo office, I lead a team of like-minded professionals focused on innovation and strategic growth. In addition to my real estate ventures, I am establishing The Somoza Law Firm—a firm designed to operate independently while synergizing with my real estate initiatives. I believe this firm will enhance the value I create for investors, offering legal insights that complement my team’s extensive industry expertise.
Now, I am embarking on a project of historical significance. Through a newly established syndication, I am raising capital to develop The Lincoln Hotel, the first hotel in Hodgenville, Kentucky—the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. This boutique hotel will not only provide a distinguished hospitality experience but will also serve as a tribute to Lincoln’s enduring legacy. Featuring an art gallery and curated artwork throughout, the hotel will honor the profound sacrifice and leadership of the 16th President of the United States.
With a track record of innovation and a vision for the future, I continue to shape industries, create opportunities, and build legacies that stand the test of time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path of entrepreneurship is never without obstacles, but my challenges extended far beyond the typical trials of business. In 2010, I faced a wrongful conviction—an ordeal that plunged me into the depths of the criminal justice system and set me on an arduous journey of resilience, self-education, and redemption.
Rather than allowing my circumstances to define me, I turned adversity into opportunity. Determined to reclaim my life, I immersed myself in the study of law, mastering legal procedures and courtroom strategy. I represented myself during critical years of my post-conviction proceedings, demonstrating relentless perseverance and intellect. With the assistance of an attorney, I ultimately secured the reversal of all wrongful convictions and negotiated a plea deal that allowed me to regain my freedom and rebuild my future.
The hardships I endured—both during my incarceration and after my release—have uniquely shaped my approach to business and leadership. My journey instilled in me an unshakable resolve, an analytical mindset, and an unparalleled ability to navigate complex challenges. More than just an entrepreneur, I am an optimist at heart, known for my passion, resilience, and deep compassion for others.
Today, my story stands as a testament to the power of perseverance and hope, proving that even in the face of immense adversity, success is possible for those who refuse to give up.
We’ve been impressed with Lincoln Legacy Fund, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At 501K, I am building more than just a real estate investment brand—I am creating a vision for transformative, legacy-driven projects. As a seasoned entrepreneur with a passion for innovation and resilience, I specialize in commercial real estate development, investment, and strategic ventures that make a lasting impact.
One of my most ambitious projects is The Lincoln Hotel, a first-of-its-kind condotel in Hodgenville, Kentucky—the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. This five-story landmark blends history, hospitality, and investment opportunity, offering guests an immersive experience that celebrates Lincoln’s enduring legacy. With a restaurant, bar, art gallery, and gift shop on the main floor, premium accommodations on floors two through four, and exclusive condotel ownership opportunities on the fifth floor, this development is poised to become a destination of historical and cultural significance.
What sets my work apart is a commitment to meaningful investments—projects that not only generate strong returns but also preserve history, inspire unity, and drive economic growth. With over 60 years of combined real estate experience on my team, I have the insight and expertise to identify and execute high-impact developments that others overlook.
I take pride in creating opportunities where others see obstacles. My own journey—marked by resilience, reinvention, and triumph over adversity—embodies the very spirit of 501K. This relentless drive to turn challenges into success fuels everything I do, from revitalizing communities to offering investors exclusive opportunities with strong financial upside.
For those looking to invest in real estate with purpose, 501K is more than a firm—it’s a movement. I invite you to be part of a legacy-driven future by joining me in building projects that stand the test of time, inspire generations, and create lasting economic impact.
What’s next?
In addition to looking forward to getting married and starting a family, I am constantly looking ahead as the leader of 501K, identifying opportunities to create lasting impact through strategic real estate development and investment. My immediate focus is on bringing The Lincoln Hotel to life in Hodgenville, Kentucky—a project that blends history, hospitality, unity, legacy, and economic revitalization. As the first-ever hotel in Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace, this development will fill a critical gap in the local hospitality market while honoring one of the world’s greatest leaders.
Beyond The Lincoln Hotel, I am actively exploring additional commercial real estate ventures that align with my mission of legacy-driven investment. I am focused on expanding my portfolio to include mixed-use developments, historic revitalization projects, and innovative condotel models that merge real estate ownership with hospitality.
I am also deepening my investor network, offering more individuals the chance to be part of high-impact projects with strong financial returns. With 501K’s proven expertise and track record of success, my goal is to scale these developments nationwide, bringing new opportunities for growth, unity, and economic empowerment to communities across the country.
Ultimately, I am committed to turning vision into reality—building not just properties, but legacies. As I move forward, I remain dedicated to innovation, resilience, and transformative real estate that will inspire generations to come.
