Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Richey and Jessica Damschen
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My sister, Teresa and I had an idea years ago to start a podcast and it wasn’t until we both finally got sober that we were able to make that dream a reality! We have both been sober for over 5 years and love doing the podcast! We started it about 2 years ago and recently got into Audible. We love telling people our personal histories as well as our views and perspectives on things that are happening everyday, in life, in the world and everything in between. We were always told by the friends who would come over for coffee that we should have our own show and the more we heard it the more we kind of started to believe it. We love hearing from our listeners that they’re relate and they feel like they’re sitting they’re talking to us. They feel heard and seen. We love hearing that we’re helping, one way or another.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our scheduling is the biggest challenge, thus far. Both of us are single moms with full time jobs and we’re on opposite schedules and most oftentime we only have one day off together to record. We’re doing pretty good at figuring it out right now, we’re hoping it gets easier down the road.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Podcasters. We love sharing our life experiences. We love knowing that someone out there could hear it and know they’re not alone. They’re heard and understood and someone else is going through or has gone through that same thing and made it through to the other side, so they can too. It’s also extremely cathartic and therapeutic to talk to my sister and that alone brings up things that we work through together. It’s made us closer and better at communicating.
How do you define success?
The biggest one would be financial freedom and stability. Not having to live paycheck to paycheck and being able to put our sole focus into making the podcast into the media company we have envisioned a reality. We want to start having guests on and start doing interviews with other podcasters and celebrities, political figures, friends and family. But ultimately starting our media company and being able to find and fund other projects in an addition to our own would be incredible.
