Hi Jared, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was in the Air Force for 5 years as a contracting officer. After 5 years, I got out of the military to go to business school (Darden) and then moved to Utah to become an international equity manager on several mutual funds. After a career in international investing, I wanted to invest locally and spend more time with family instead of traveling all over the world. When I heard about Take 5, I knew the business model would be a success in Utah, so I purchased the rights to northern Utah. People love the fast, friendly, simple oil changes, and the stay-in-your-car business model. We also added 10-minute emissions test for the same price that the competition is charging, and our customers love that!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle has been starting a new brand in the market and getting the word out about what we do.
Once folks have come in and seen the quick service model (and the fact that we’re done with the oil change before they finish the free bottle of water that we give them), they usually come back! Also, finding the right real estate has been a challenge, but the 4 locations we have have been great! We anticipate doing at least another 6 stores.

Our friendly technicians are here for them every step of the way, from helping select the right oil, to performing windshield wiper replacements, air filter changes, coolant exchanges, and more – all while customers stay in the car! People love our FREE tire pressure checks and fluid top-offs, and offering a 10-minute emissions test is all but unheard of in the industry! Everyone gets a free bottle of water, fruit snacks for the kids, and even treats for their dogs! It’s the best oil change experience on the planet!
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up in Kanosh, Utah, I loved growing up with family nearby, so holidays are some of my fondest memories.
