Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Langford
Hi Erin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always enjoyed photography. I began my photography career in high school taking classes and working for a local photography studio. In college, I studied journalism and worked as a newspaper photographer for three years before I started running my own photography business.
I loved the energy I felt during my first photojournalism assignment, and I’ve been chasing that dream ever since. I get the same thrill with each wedding ceremony I capture. For the past 19 years, I’ve been capturing these special moments in northern Utah. I love getting to know my couples and their families. I also enjoy leading photography workshops and mentoring new photographers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think my best characteristic is my ability to create a welcoming, fun session. I’ve been honored to work with more than 100 brides over the past 15 years, and I handle every wedding with grace, precision, and skill. Any last-minute wedding-day pitfalls: I understand them. Tricky lighting issues? I can handle it. Giggly kids? I love them. When you work with me, your wedding becomes your love legacy. A legacy you’ll be able to hold and share for years to come.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a wedding and portrait photographer based in the greater Salt Lake City area, my goal has always been to create an experience for each of my clients that is more than just taking pretty photos. At Erin Langford Photography, you are not just a number or a date. Many of my clients become genuine friends and through this connection I am able to learn what makes them unique. This allows me to truly create a custom and luxurious experience for each of the clients I have the pleasure of working with.
I recently completed a Master of Photography degree from Professional Photographers of America. This took many years of study and hard work. Experience and education definitely set me apart from other local photographers.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
As I was getting ready for my grandmother’s funeral, I found a box of love letters my grandfather had written to her when he was in the army during WWII. His legacy. One I could hold. He sent her a bus ticket to where he was stationed and a request for her hand in marriage. My grandmother took her dreams and that bus ticket and rode from Utah to New Mexico to be with him. They were married for 66 years.
She believed that even during war, love was worth the risk. My grandparents will never end up in the history books. No one will ever write a story about them. And yet their history matters to someone, it matters to me.
And that’s what good photography can do. Capture the moment when everything changed. When a young girl from Utah believed that her man in the army was worth it. When two people decide to spend their lives together. This is my why.
When people ask why I do what I do, that’s what I tell them: to preserve your legacy as you dreamt it. I take your story and turn it into your storybook.
