Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee Young
Hi Kaylee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is a little bit different than most, I actually didn’t end up graduating from high school and had kids at a young age. My life revolved around being a mom and wife, and I lost myself in that. I decided I needed to go back to work and find myself again but without graduating and no college education I felt stuck in the 9-5, making 10$ an hour that didn’t even cover the cost of daycare. Until one day, I decided to apply to Esthetics School, not knowing how we were going to make it work if I actually got in, but I knew that would be the only way I could find my own success! We pushed through the hard, and I graduated in 2021 with my Master Esthetician license. When I graduated I created Mrakki Brows and rented a studio suite and slowly started to grow my business. When I was creating Mrakki I knew I wanted it to have meaning and purpose- Meraki means to pour a piece of yourself into something that you love. I loved the meaning, but that didn’t feel like enough it didn’t stand out so I played with the spelling and came up with Mrakki. At this point I poured every ounce of myself into my business not only for me, but to show my kids that it doesn’t matter where you came from or your circumstances- you have the capability to do anything you set your mind too. I went from that little studio suite to opening up Mrakki Brow Bar, I hired employees, started a cosmetics line and purchased a laser. If you were to tell me this is where my life would be 10 years ago, I would’ve laughed in your face. But here I am. I did it. And now my kids get to have a mom that they can look up to, and be proud of!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t personally feel like anything worthwhile comes easy. It requires time, sacrifice and consistency. We used all the money we had in savings to put me through school, and I think that was one of the scariest things we’ve ever done because at the time we didn’t even know what would come of it. Once I graduated and was able to start taking clients I sacrificed time with my kids and my husband so that I could grow Mrakki, into what it is now. But as I look back all the “hard”, was worth it. It made me appreciate each moment- because it wasn’t easy!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I own Mrakki Brow Bar in Lehi, Utah. When I opened my space I knew I wanted it to make people feel a certain way from the moment they walked in to when they left. From the smell, the environment to how we make them feel. We started out just doing brows, and I realized there was a need for microblading removal. I would have clients coming in stating they hated their microblading or wanted to change the style of micrblading they had done. So I decided to invest In a laser to be able to offer microblading removal. When clients come in we are able to offer any help with their brows that they need, from removal to brow rehabs we are here for every step of the way. Now we offer brows, tattoo removal and laser hair removal.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My kids are my everything and bring me the most happiness. Everything I do I do for them.
