Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Cox
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I’ve been captivated by the way photography has the power to freeze time and capture fleeting moments. It’s more than just a hobby or career choice for me—it’s a way of experiencing the world in its rawest form, preserving memories that would otherwise slip away unnoticed. I didn’t just want to take pictures—I wanted to tell stories, to showcase the beauty in the mundane, and to explore the depths of human emotion through the lens.
Photography allows me to share my unique perspective with others, to invite people into a moment in time they might never have experienced themselves. I became a photographer not only because I was drawn to the art of visual storytelling but also because I saw it as a means of connecting with others in a profound way. Whether it’s capturing a person’s smile, the quiet solitude of nature, or the chaos of a city street, I wanted to create images that evoke emotion, provoke thought, and make people see the world with fresh eyes.
For me, photography isn’t just about technical skill—it’s about being in tune with the world around me, seeing what others might miss, and sharing that vision with authenticity. It’s my way of leaving a mark, telling the stories that matter, and showing the beauty in the everyday. This passion has shaped my journey and continues to drive me to learn, grow, and refine my craft.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My experience has been smooth overall. The challenges I’ve faced are common when starting something new, whether a hobby or business. One of the biggest hurdles in photography is capturing the image in your mind as a final photo. This requires learning proper exposure to avoid overly bright or dark images, but the real challenge lies in selecting the right settings, gear, and positioning to achieve the perfect shot.
On the business side, I believe in jumping in and learning as I go. I’ve been fortunate to have friends who supported me by letting me photograph them, helping me build my portfolio—an essential step in attracting future clients!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I first gravitated toward landscape and adventure photography, drawn by its accessibility and the sense of immersion it offers. There’s something captivating about an image that transports you to a breathtaking scene, making you feel part of the moment.
But great photography is more than just a beautiful shot—it’s about storytelling. A compelling image holds attention, drawing viewers in rather than letting them scroll past. That narrative element is what I strive to capture in every frame, whether grand or simple.
Applying this mindset to portrait photography transformed my approach. No longer just a “glorified tripod,” I now see myself as a director and creative, shaping each shot to tell a story in every scene.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Not applicable as I was not involved with photography or business ownership at this time.
