Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Stutman
Hi Henry, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Henry Stutman has consistently demonstrated a commitment to justice, innovation, and public service—values that shape both his career and personal life. Guided by faith, country, and love for family, Henry is committed to a lifetime of service.
As a young student at Weber State, Henry took part in the university’s ROTC program, a decision that instilled discipline, responsibility, and a deep commitment to his community. This commitment found practical expression when he was sworn in as a Deputy Constable with the Ogden City Constable’s Office. In this capacity, he gained invaluable experience in law enforcement and further developed his understanding of the challenges facing both law enforcement professionals and individuals in the justice system. Through these roles, Henry honed his leadership skills, which would later play a crucial role in his ability to navigate complex challenges across various sectors.
Henry’s journey into law took a pivotal turn with his experience as a Federal Intern Investigator with the Salt Lake Federal Defenders. Here, he worked on complex cases involving federal charges, gaining firsthand insight into the intricacies of the legal system. The role not only fueled his passion for justice but also solidified his determination to pursue law as a means to make a meaningful impact. “It was during this time I saw the impact that on-the-ground investigations had on lives,” Henry recalls. This experience served as a catalyst, driving him to attend law school and continue advocating for law and order.
With technology transforming nearly every facet of life, Henry recognized the importance of cybersecurity as both a personal interest and a professional necessity. Earning a Master’s degree in cybersecurity before attending law school, deepened his understanding of how technology can reshape industries and security protocols.
His current role as Chief Marketing Officer at SM Marketing, a Utah-based tech startup, allowed him to apply his technological expertise in the real world, developing innovative marketing solutions for athletes and local businesses. His time in the tech world further underscored the critical need for an integrated approach to law and technology—a realization that continues to shape his evolving career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Mr. Stutman has faced life’s challenges directly and head-on, facing off with often cruel, cold and near insurmountable challenges.
These challenges, however, like many others, redefined his commitment and expanded his real-world capacity for empathy in the face of life’s struggles. Armed with firsthand knowledge of the difficulties brought on by a wide range of trials, Mr. Stutman draws from his extensive experience in advanced cybersecurity, law enforcement practices, and his growing legal expertise to develop a strong and grounded approach to real-world problem-solving.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I always say, “I’m just the camera guy.”
Ever wonder who films all the funny reels you see on Instagram? Well, I’m one of those guys! My name is Henry Stutman, and I am the CMO of SM Marketing, a small tech startup in Utah.
I have always asked myself one question: What gets someone to do something they wouldn’t normally do? In other words, how do we modify, change, or influence a person’s behavior to a certain degree and with a controlled effect?
I challenge you—next time you’re at a store or place of business—to conduct a marketing experiment. Start looking around. Does the place smell good? Does it have good lighting? If it’s a website, give it the boomer test: I take off my glasses and use one hand. If, in seven seconds or less, I can add their top-selling product to my cart, I’d say they have a decent click-through rate.
Modifying or changing behavior requires one to remain ethical. This can be a challenge, as the very act of modifying behavior can be ethically complex by its nature.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I grew up in Huntsville, Utah. I love that valley and spent my childhood skiing at Snowbasin, off-roading through Avon Pass, and stargazing by Causey Dam. Eating In and out, in a Jeep, with endless energy filling the night skies, my love for Utah only grew.
Take an empty box with a door, windows, and a flat cement slab in front of it—toss in a couple of fantastic people, and what do you have? A home. Remove the people, and all you have is a very expensive list of items from Home Depot.
Utah is special because we are. The people here quite literally glow. I have faith that as the days roll on and the seasons change, many more special people will come to understand what makes Utah so extraordinary.
