Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Dominguez
Hi Omar , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in the food industry in 1996, my first job was cook in the first Arbys in Veracruza Mexico, my home town, very fast I discovered it was a passionate environment for me, I was surprised about all the controls you have to manage to be successful, to me that was a new science but that ignited a passion inside me.
Then I moved to another city, learned international business and few other skills that help me in the future,
Then I moved to Utah and my big passion became the day to day, started as a “lobby guy” and dishwasher, enjoyed every minute of that, very early in my career I noticed I needed to learn every position so I focused on that and started growing.
Later on had the opportunity to move to FOH positions and then Kitchen manager where I discover this big science behind the numbers that make a food business successful
After over a decade in the industry I decided to start my own company helping others to grow their restaurants, at that point I started Spicy Consulting, a gastronomic firm dedicated 100% to food businesses.
After one year operating I opened Crown Alfajores with my wife, a pastry company producing Alfajores ( South American cookies) from different countries and selling to grocery stores, with this experience I added this service to my consulting firm, now we do all the licensing process to start companies ans place their products in different stores.
Now we offer several other services, trainings, classes, content creation, social media management, and everything based in the vision and experience we have in the industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The main struggle was the pandemic by far but, in a day to day basis one of the challenges is when a client is trying to tart but doesn’t have a vision about what their plan is, sometimes they want an 95 items menu that will increase the inventory and won’t create the right revenue, sometimes is hard to make the client understand they are not in the path to be a successful business
We’ve been impressed with Spicy Consulting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My main characteristic is my passion, it took time for me to understand how to make a living from helping people, in my mind was hard to believe that I should charge others for doing what I loves so mucho helping people! So when I found out that helping them to create, start and grow businesses were my talent I grew a lot, by providing the correct experiences and hep them grow their companies.
Most of my business comes from opening restaurants and food trucks, I have been in the industry almost 30 years so I put all that experience in the process to make them successful.
Now I’m helping companies all over the country and through a mentorship program I have mentored companies in several countries including Africa.

My big difference from another consulting companies is my background, knowledge from the inside, something one client told me was that I have “several different solutions for a challenge” and that made me feel very happy.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Everything from Gary Vee, I listen to so many podcasts in English and Spanish, books from Maxwell, Seth Godin, my own podcast I go to a random episode and listen to it and learn from that, I like to organize networking events to meet new entrepreneurs, and I’m always meeting new people to grow my network, that so important.
