Today we’d like to introduce you to Preston Reynolds
Hi Preston, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey in analytics when I stepped into an Interim Business Analyst role at a call center during a c0-worker’s maternity leave. This experience sparked my passion for data as I collaborated with reporting, data warehouse, and software development teams. I then moved on to become a Business Intelligence Developer for a nationwide security company and later led the largest Business Intelligence (BI) team at Amazon. After creating a new BI practice at a local consulting firm, growing to $4,500,000 in revenue in the first 3 years, I decided to go out on my own and founded Insights In Action. My proudest achievements come when I can work with organizations and leaders to see their problems in a different light – opening new avenues for putting their toughest operational problems to rest. I’ve always been driven by a commitment to delivering tangible business impact and continuously challenging the status quo to drive improvements.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think life is a whole lot like the roads we drive. Some of them are pristine, newly striped, and clean, with guardrails that keep you on the desired path. Others are full of bumps, potholes, flat tires, and road debris that make things difficult. My road has been a lot like the roads of life. I’ve faced challenges like working with managers and co-workers who were fixated on inefficient, archaic methods or who were resistant to new perspectives. There were times where a daily 4-hour commute or spending a quarter of the year on the road made family experiences hard. All the while, though, I keep my faith and family at the forefront. After all, I don’t plan on getting to the end and saying, “I wish I had just worked one more day at the office!” Yeah, there are ups and downs, but life is awesome! As a friend recently told me after looking at the heart rate monitor of his granddaughter who was in the hospital following an injury, “Life is so much like the lines on a heart rate monitor… Constant ups and downs. If the line was always the same, going straight across the screen, what would that mean?! You’d be dead!”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Insights In Action?
We specialize in solving the toughest operational challenges organizations face every day. Every business has processes and systems, and every one of them has room for improvement. But when you’re inside a system—especially one you’ve been part of for years—it’s tough to see the inefficiencies that an outsider can quickly identify.
Whether it’s reducing long call durations in call centers, fixing delayed order fulfillment in e-commerce, optimizing inventory in retail and manufacturing, or preventing customer churn, every challenge has a solution. Using our time-tested, battle-proven approaches, we’ve helped hundreds of customers streamline operations, reduce costs, drive efficiency, and make positive, actually meaningful, impacts — often transforming the way their organizations function for years to come.
We’re the team you call when you’ve hit a dead end, when the usual solutions aren’t working, or when you simply don’t know what to do next. We thrive on solving the toughest challenges—and if we can’t help, you won’t pay a thing.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Easily the biggest risk I’ve taken was jumping on the entrepreneurial train to start Insights In Action. There’s a lot to love about cushy corporate jobs—steady paychecks, fairly defined career paths, and arguably a more present sense of stability. But I’ve seen that true ownership of your destiny requires stepping outside that comfort zone.
When faced with risk, I ask myself two key questions: “Is this a one-way door?” Like a turnstile at the exit of an amusement park, will this decision make backtracking nearly impossible? And second, “what’s the literal worst that could happen?” More often than not, the answer isn’t as catastrophic as we imagine. The world literally brimming with incredible opportunities. Some are easy to obtain and come with easily manageable risks. But some of the best ones require a heck-of-a-lot more grit, determination, tenacity, and drive. All that AND a very supportive and loving spouse. 🙂
I’ve found that the risks that feel the most daunting are often the ones that shape us the most. It’s nearly impossible that every leap will land perfectly, but the willingness to take smart, deliberate risks will turn obstacles into opportunities and push us forward towards real growth.
Pricing:
- We Quote, Not Estimate. You wouldn’t go to a mechanic and settle for “We think it’ll cost $$$, but we’re really not sure.” So why accept that in business? Whenever possible, we give you a fixed quote upfront, not a ballpark estimate. That means no surprises, no “gotcha” moments—just transparent pricing you can trust. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying for and exactly what you’ll get.
