Today we’d like to introduce you to Ideal Horizon
Hi Ideal, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started at the end of 2021 when the band that Keith Reynolds (drummer) and Bryson Murdoch (bassist) were a part of decided to break up. They weren’t done chasing the dream of making a career in music so they decided to start over again to make something they could be proud of and that they were passionate about. From that point, the journey of what would later become Ideal Horizon started. The search for the right members took over a year. In August 2022, after about 8 months of searching, we found Renee Zalar (singer), and then in February of 2023, we found Dominique Gomez (guitar) and he was the missing piece to the puzzle that we needed. From that point, everything started to take off with writing music and in July of that year, we released our debut single “The Day” and played our first show. Since then, we’ve been writing, recording, performing, and trying to build our social media so that we can one day achieve our dream of bringing the music of Ideal Horizon to the world and making this our career. It’s a daily grind, but we have faith it’ll all be worth it in the end!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been a bumpy road…that’s for sure. For starters, it took us over a year to actually form the band and about that same amount of time to come up with the name Ideal Horizon. Outside of that…it’s just a grind. As a small band, you’re not just musicians. You’re producers, social media influencers, booking agents, tour managers…the list goes on and on. The biggest grind is social media, which just goes up and down in terms of the success you see with it. Right now, we feel like we’re at that barrier to entry that everyone faces where it feels like you’re just beating up against a wall and not getting anywhere. It’s all about doing the little things every day to be successful and we do our best to stay consistent.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We’re an alternative rock band from Salt Lake City, Utah. We have music out on all major streaming platforms and we perform regularly around Utah (keep an eye out on our social media pages for upcoming shows). The thing we’re probably most proud of at this point is the release of our first EP which came out in October. We worked on the tracks for that for a while and at the end, we had an EP that we love, that listeners will love as well. What sets us apart is our stage presence and passion for what we do. We strive for an amazing show every time we perform that those seeing us for the first will love, but also will keep those who have seen us before coming back. That’s fueled by our love for the music we play but also by the dream we have of making this a career.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best thing about Salt Lake City, as it relates to music anyway, is the amount of talent that’s here. There are so many talented bands and it’s been awesome to get to know them and share the stage with a lot of them. The thing we like least? If we had to name one thing…the music scene here can be tough. I think that goes back to the amount of talent and number of bands here. You really have to set yourself apart. We’re sure that can be said for any city though.
