Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Pulham
Hi Mia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2012, right after graduating high school, I started a cosmetologist apprenticeship with my now mother in law. I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do at that point but I knew I wanted to have a job that allowed me to be creative and one that I could pursue while being present for my family and children when I made it to that stage in life. While apprenticing I really fell in love with doing hair, I loved meeting new people and helping them feel their best. I loved the opportunity to work with my clients throughout various stages and milestones in their lives and it was really exciting to be there to support them and catch up during every appointment! In 2014 I finished my apprenticeship and moved on to work in a new salon. I spent five years working a my first salon until 2019 when I found out that the salon would soon be closing. I had a month to find a new place to work and to really decide if this was what I would continue to do. At this point in life I had my first child and was 7 months pregnant with my second. During this time I was so lucky to find an amazing new friend, Haleigh, who was looking for someone to share her salon suite. After meeting and talking with each other Haleigh invited me to work with her! I started working in the Riverwood Salon Suites, where I’m currently located, and have loved it! After all this time I’m still so in love with my career and so grateful for all the clients and friends I’ve made along the way. I love the opportunity to express myself and the challenge that comes with learning new techniques and services. I love being able to work with my clients to enhance their natural beauty and make them feel amazing! Thirteen years of doing hair and it has been such a wonderful and exciting time overcoming challenges and enjoying the simple moments as well. This career has given me a wonderful opportunity to push myself and has allowed me to grow as a person while being there for my, now three, kids. It’s been an amazing adventure and I’m excited for the years to come!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a hairstylist & small business I’m constantly learning. There are everyday things like making sure to stay on top of my inventory, my numbers, cleaning supplies, and drinks, pretty much whatever is needed for the salon. There’s new hair trends or techniques that I need to stay up to date. I need to follow trends on social media to make sure I’m properly marketing myself and my business. Along with that just this last year I worked with the amazing C3.photography to help me with a full rebrand and photo shoot to update my social media presence. It was so much more work than I would have ever expected but it turned out so amazing and I’m so glad I was able to work with them! Shortly after the rebrand I started working with The Digital Club to get their help managing my social media and marketing presence. There’s so much to learn and so much work and areas to improve not just to be the best hairstylist I can be but to also properly run and promote my business! I’m so grateful for the amazing connections I’ve made and for all the help I’ve gotten, sometimes you don’t know how much more work there is to do until you find the right people to help push you along the right path!
We’ve been impressed with Hair By Mia P , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a cosmetologist working in the Riverwood Salon Suites. I specialize in women’s hair with services including cuts, colors, and extensions. I work with my clients to enhance their natural beauty and give them a look they will absolutely love. From start to finish I want my clients to feel confident, beautiful, refreshed and ready to do amazing things!
