Daily Inspiration: Meet Jessica Bever

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Bever

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Jessica Bever, I am 24 years old, and I am originally from the Oregon Coast! I come from a family of five and absolutely love being a teacher. After graduating high school, I moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University. I started at BYU as a nursing major but quickly recognized that I wanted to be in the classroom. Following my major change to elementary education, I completed four amazing years at BYU. In the final year of my schooling, I completed an internship in a school district partnered with my university. I was fortunate enough to be hired on at my same placement school the following year and have been there ever since teaching third grade. My coworkers have quickly become my second family and my school truly feels like my home away from home. In 2022 I created my instagram page @missjbever to share my experiences as a teacher in their early twenties. I began posting about anything from classroom parties and holiday decor, to curriculum and teaching strategies. I later started a Teachers Pay Teachers business account and have had the opportunity to work with companies such as Crayola and Really Good Stuff. I have met so many amazing teachers through this online world of teaching and am thankful for the many experiences that it has brought me. I look forward to what is ahead!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This job can certainly be overwhelming at times but I have been incredibly blessed with close friends and family who have supported me along the way. My dad is in business and has given me a tremendous amount of advice while starting my own little journey on the internet. My sweet mom has spent hours with me preparing materials for my students. My brothers have come to my classroom on many occasions to help me set up for parties and various events. While so many friends have supported me with their time and energy as well. My coworkers get me through each day with a smile on my face and my dear students are why I do it all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have taught third grade for three years now and have loved every minute of it. I love feeling apart of the community in which I teach and getting to experience all that it entails. My favorite things about being a teacher include, seeing the light bulb moments that happen every day, laughing with my kids, and showing up for them whenever I can. I love going to different extracurricular events for my students whether it be sporting events, dance recitals, or choir concerts. Seeing their faces light up when I see them outside of the classroom is such a special moment. I love making connections with families and getting to teach siblings from years past. I teach in a small town and feel lucky that they have welcomed me into it.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
While completing my internship at my current school, I was blessed with two incredible mentors who made a tremendous impact on my teaching journey, Rebecca Hunter and Dayna Vernon. Both of these women supported me and showed up for me when it mattered most. I learned so much from each of them regarding how to manage a classroom, impact students, and be the best teacher that I can be for those kids. Additionally, teammate and coworker Ashley Barnett is someone who I cannot imagine doing this job without. We started teaching third grade together as our current school in the same year and she has been with me through it all. She is one of my biggest cheerleaders and support system. Finally, as stated previously, my family has shown up for me in every way that counts. I wouldn’t be doing this without them and their endless support.
