Meet Alexys Pintor of The AP boxing club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexys Pintor

Hi Alexys, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started boxing at a young age and I always had a passion for it. I was taught how to box by my father at around 10 years old. My father taught it to me as a means for self-defense, but alongside that I also learned about the importance of exercising, staying in shape, and discipline. Not only did I get stronger physically, but mentally as well, and it helped me to regulate my emotions in a healthy way. It was not only a physical activity for me though, it was a time to connect and bond with my father, and I hold on those memories close to my heart. We trained regularly for a while and i embraced every second of it. I always had an undying love for boxing, and growing up I didn’t have the opportunity to pursue boxing like I wanted to. Fast forward to 2019, after finding out that there was a boxing gym in town, it immediately piqued my interest. I instantly decided that I was going to get back into boxing, mostly to just get back into shape and build up my cardio. I joined the gym in town and went there quite regularly, it was my second home and I loved to just work the bag and let the days worries and stresses drift away as I trained. A couple months afterwards, I was asked if I wanted to coach. Initially, i was unsure, i had never done anything like that before and i was scared to try something and possibly fail at it. I was reassured, that I would be trained and told that I would do great as a coach, due to my demeanor and my knowledge of the sport. I faced that fear head on and that decision changed the trajectory of my life. I became a member coach at the gym and I fell in love with coaching. I only coached two days out of the week but I put my all in those two days. I wanted to teach anyone that was willing to learn all about boxing and share my passion for boxing with them. I used coaching and boxing as a way to reach and connect with others and I found my calling in life through boxing. This was something I loved to do, and I wanted to share it with the world. Shortly afterwards, I was given the opportunity to do so. The head coach was moving out of state for a job opportunity that he couldn’t deny. He approached me and urged me to apply for the head coach position at the gym, I did and I got the job. This was a dream come true. I coached there for a few years and due to some unfortunate series of events the gym was closed down. I was devastated but that didn’t stop me from continuing to do what I loved. I searched and found out that there was another gym that did boxing and I approached the owner about possibly becoming a coach there. To my surprise, it was only open two days a week and the owner said I could rent the space and occupy it on the off days, and do my own thing. I didn’t hesitate to reply to excitedly, with a resounding yes. I coached 3 days out of the week for 6 months. After that. The owner told me he was leaving boxing business because he was to busy with other personal matters and he could no longer be present at the gym. He asked me if I wanted to buy the gym and take over full time. This was a jaw dropping experience and it filled me with so much gratitude that i could do this. Without delay I said yes and on January 1st 2025 the AP boxing club was officially born.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road. I was faced with fear, doubt, uncertainty, as well as financial struggles throughout the journey. I lost my coaching position at one gym due to circumstances that were out of my control, but I refused to give up. I believe that if there is a will, there is a way and for me I’m willing to do anything to continue to do what I love to do and share my passion for a boxing with the community.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Well, I like best about St. George is The beautiful landscape, all the mountains, the trails Surrounding national Parks. All the things you can do outside. It’s just a beautiful place to live not to mention all the nice people here. It’s a very friendly city. What do I like least about St. George? not enough boxing gyms here and the boxing community is small but I’m trying to change that and make boxing more popular
