Today we’d like to introduce you to Baylee Tryon
Hi Baylee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey on becoming a Nail Technician came out of left field. After I graduated high-school I had no idea what I wanted to do. I had always been interested in teaching so that’s where I headed. I got a job as a pre-k teachers aide. I really enjoyed that job, it fulfilled alot of things that I needed at that time of my life and it also taught me alot about myself. One thing it taught me is that being creative comes in so many different ways, art is a very subjective thing, and being apart of art is where I belong.
My grandma has always been my biggest supporter! She is a huge reason I have come so far. I’ve never had a lot of interest in beauty, but my grandma and I decided to get our nails done one day at a local salon. While I enjoyed that day, I didn’t enjoy the way my nails were done. After leaving unsatisfied, I decided to do some research and realized that I could probably do my own nails. I watched so many youtube videos and tiktoks on how to do my own nails. So i bought a kit and went to work. After a while of doing my own I realized that I really enjoyed doing nails and I had the skill too. I became interested in going to school and becoming licensed. I eventually decided to go to the cosmetology school in the town over and graduated in August of 2022. School was definitely a struggle, especially as someone who has ADHD, but I pulled through and graduated earlier than most of my class, along side a classmate that i had gotten close too. She helped me get through school.
After passing all my state tests and finally getting my Nail Technician license, I chose a salon close to where I lived, it had just opened up so unfortunately it didnt have a whole lot of foot traffic. I made a friend at this salon who found a salon in vernal that had booths for rent. She went in for a interview and they mentioned that they were interested in me too. Eventually I started working there a little less than a year after I got my license. I enjoyed another year there, where I meet my best friend and some amazing tattoo artists and lash Technicians. We went to Las Vegas for a Beauty Convention, summer of 2024. The convention was huge and had so many different booths from all over the world. I had built up enough clientele to quite my job as a Teachers aide and went full time as a Nail Technician. Eventually I moved on to another salon for about 5 months, when I eventually found a private office for rent that was within my budget. I had been looking into getting my own space for over a year at that point. It almost felt like the stars alighned. This was the best space I could ask for. It is located on mainstreet, it’s got ample parking. It’s newly renovated and plenty of space to grow. I almost immediately went on a tour of the space and fell in love. I signed a lease and moved in to my own private studio in February of 2025. After 2 1/5 years of working under salon owners I had finally gotten my dream space!
I have meet some amazing people along that way and gained a sense of community in an industry I never cared to be apart of. I’ve learned alot about who I am and who I want to be. I have struggled and cried over trendy nail art that I couldn’t nail down, over application, over not having enough clients and feeling like I didn’t have the skill or the mentality to do this. But I pushed through and kept fighting to do better, for me and my loyal clients, for my grandma who has been with me since day one. They are truly some of the best people I have met, and I am so great full that they choose me to spend their time with. That is why I keep pushing forward.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! Working under someone is never easy. Especially when social media idealized how it would be. It’s taken a lot of time and hard work to be where I have gotten and I still have a long way to go! This industry is ever changing and I don’t want to be left behind, I want to lead the way for future generations.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I get to create tiny masterpieces on people’s fingers, well sometimes. I specialize is structured overlays, which is, like the name says. I use a Japanese brand for most of my gel. I also prioritize natural nail health, and I don’t do extensions often. Most of my clients have grown out their nails. The fun part is when I get to design a set based off of random photos, shows, books or a general idea. It can be tricky picking out the right design aspects for each client. Then I paint on the design on my clients nails. Nails are really small so I use a high quality brush and paint gels which makes my designs come out a lot smoother. I put my heart and soul into these designs so it makes me so happy when my clients love them.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Follow me on Instagram, book an appointment with me or recommend me to others indeed of a nail tech. Word of mouth bring a lot of clients in. I also love a good trade.
