Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Hammond
Hi Jeffrey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey to becoming a podiatrist and owning my own practice actually started when I was 18. I was competing in a triathlon and crashed — pretty badly, to be honest. The doctor who stitched me up ended up becoming a good friend and mentor, and he invited me to intern at his sports medicine office. That experience opened my eyes to the world of foot and ankle injuries, and from there, I knew podiatry was the path I wanted to take.
I went on to study at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, spending four years there before completing my residency at University Hospitals, also in Cleveland. During residency, I had the opportunity to work at both University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic, and in my final year, I served as Chief Resident over one of the largest podiatry residency programs in the country.
After residency, I practiced for a year with a large group in Cleveland, but ultimately, I knew I wanted to return to my hometown — Provo, Utah — and create something of my own. I designed and built my office with the goal of blending cutting-edge technology with a welcoming, spa-like atmosphere. I wanted patients to feel comfortable the moment they walked in the door.
Since opening my practice, I’ve spent every year — and honestly, every day — staying up to date on the latest treatments and technology to make sure my patients are getting the absolute best care possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — not even close. Opening a solo practice came with a lot more challenges than I expected. For starters, my opening was delayed almost an entire year because of construction and planning issues with my office space. That was frustrating, but once we finally opened, the real work started.
Since I didn’t have an established patient base, I had to build everything from scratch. That meant getting out into the community, introducing myself to anyone who would listen, and constantly explaining who I am and what I’m trying to do. It’s been a grind — lots of rejections, plenty of hard moments where you wonder if it’s all going to work out.
There have absolutely been days when the bank account was heading in the wrong direction, and the fear of failing felt very real. But then, you’ll have a day where everything just clicks — patients show up, people are excited about what you’re offering, and you remember why you started this in the first place. The struggles are real, but those moments when you see progress make it all worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Hammond Foot and Ankle?
At Hammond Foot & Ankle, my focus is on delivering a completely different kind of podiatry experience — one that blends cutting-edge technology with a welcoming, spa-like atmosphere. I wanted to create a space where patients feel comfortable and cared for, while also offering the most advanced treatments available.
A big part of what makes this possible is that we are a direct care clinic, which means we don’t accept insurance. This decision wasn’t just about business — it’s about changing the way podiatry is delivered. By stepping away from the limitations of traditional insurance-based care, we have the freedom to spend as much time with each patient as they need, dig deeper into their concerns, and customize treatments without being restricted by outdated insurance guidelines. Direct care also allows us to invest in the latest technologies and bring in new treatments as soon as they become available, so patients never have to settle for “what’s covered” instead of what actually works best.
We specialize in sports medicine and performance-based care, treating everything from running injuries and ankle sprains to chronic foot pain and complex biomechanical issues. We create custom orthotics in-office using Sidas technology, the same system trusted by professional athletes and elite sports teams worldwide. On top of that, we offer medical-grade pedicures to promote foot health and prevent future problems, laser treatments for pain, inflammation, and injury recovery, and a range of innovative therapies designed to get patients back on their feet faster.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to always staying ahead. I’m constantly researching, attending conferences, and upgrading our equipment to make sure Hammond Foot & Ankle is offering the absolute best care available — care that blends science, technology, and a truly personal approach.
When I opened this practice, my goal wasn’t just to build another podiatry office — it was to redefine what podiatry could be. I want our patients to know that foot and ankle care can (and should) be proactive, innovative, and even enjoyable. Whether you’re a high school athlete, a professional dancer, a weekend warrior, or someone who just wants to walk without pain, we’re here to help you perform your best and feel your best — every step of the way.
At Hammond Foot & Ankle, our mission is to provide excellence in everything — from advanced technology and innovative treatments to personalized care that puts patients first. We’re redefining podiatry by blending cutting-edge solutions with unmatched patient experience, helping every person we treat move better, feel better, and live better.
What are your plans for the future?
The future is bright for Hammond Foot & Ankle! One of my biggest goals is to keep finding ways to support and stay involved in the community. Whether it’s participating in Provo Women’s Day, sponsoring local sporting events, or working with high school, university, and even professional athletes — I love being part of the community I grew up in.
One exciting project we have coming up is sponsoring a distance runner who will be competing in the Cocodona 250, an ultra race through Arizona. We’ll not only be supporting her as a sponsor but also pacing her on the course and handling her foot care every step of the way as she goes after the course record. It’s the perfect example of how we want to combine our expertise with our passion for sports and performance.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue growing the practice, bringing in even more cutting-edge technology, and always improving the experience for our patients. My goal is to make sure every patient feels like they’re getting the absolute best care and attention possible.
