Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamisyn Smith
Jamisyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey as a graphic designer started in high school when my mom, Jacqueline, founded E3 Protein. She saw a glaring gap in the market—protein bars either tasted awful or were packed with artificial ingredients. She asked me to design the logo, and that project quickly turned into something much bigger. Together, we built the branding and spent two years perfecting a formula that balanced great taste with real, quality ingredients. Creating a protein bar that was both nutritious and delicious wasn’t easy, but we refused to compromise. Eventually, E3 Protein went from an idea to a fully realized product—one that proved healthy food can be both accessible and enjoyable when made with care.
After a year and a half away on a mission for my church, I returned to E3 as the marketing director. As the company grew, so did my role. I built a team to help manage the ever-expanding world of food marketing, ensuring E3 reached the right audience while staying true to our mission.
Like any business, E3 has had its highs and lows, but our commitment to quality and intention has never wavered. Today, I’m proud to be part of a company that makes healthy eating easier and more enjoyable—because real energy comes from real food.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to building E3 Protein has been anything but smooth—but every challenge has pushed us to refine our brand and our message.
When I started as a graphic designer in high school, I had passion but not much experience. Our original packaging, while well-intentioned, made it difficult for customers to understand who we were and what we stood for. One of our first major hurdles was a simple yet crucial design flaw—our bars stood upright in the fridge, but the branding was sideways, making it hard to read. We adjusted to a vertical layout to improve visibility.
Then came another unexpected challenge: most retail refrigerated spaces had black interiors, causing our packaging to disappear into the background. We needed to stand out, so we overhauled our design, adding vibrant colors that popped against dark shelves.
Even our name—E3 Energy Cubes—created confusion. The word “energy” often implied caffeine, which wasn’t our focus. We wanted people to understand that real energy comes from real food, not stimulants. Rebranding as E3 Protein better reflected our mission and values.
Each of these struggles led to smarter decisions, refining both our brand and our product. Today, E3 Protein stands as a symbol of high-quality ingredients, intentional design, and a commitment to making nutritionally dense food more accessible.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been with E3 Protein since day one, working alongside Jacqueline to bring her vision to life. From the initial concept in 2017 to where we are today, I’ve been deeply involved in shaping the brand, specializing in design and marketing—everything from product packaging to advertising visuals.
What sets me apart as a designer is my ability to problem-solve with limited resources. I’m entirely self-taught, learning through trial, error, and a relentless drive to make things work. With no formal training or education in design, I had to figure things out on my own—whether that meant refining our branding, reworking packaging to stand out on shelves, or tackling unexpected marketing challenges. If something needs to get done, I’ll find a way, even if it means bootstrapping a solution from scratch.
This year, E3 Protein is growing faster than ever, and it’s incredible to see the impact of years of hard work coming to life. Watching the brand evolve and knowing I played a key role in that journey is something I’m truly proud of.
