Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan And Chantel Flanders
Hi Bryan and Chantel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Bryan and Chantel Flanders spent the years of 2015-2023 running Root To Rise Studio at Station Park in Farmington. Market demand within the mall left them unable to stay in that space, and they’ve been working on finding a new home for the studio ever since. Throughout 2024, they came to realize the increased demand for circus arts within their studio and the community. They set out to create a new home for both kids and adults that’s all things circus – aerial silks, hammock, lyra, straps and trapeze, partner acrobatic classes like AcroYoga, standing acrobatics, acro dance and cheer acro, as well as flexibility, tumbling and handstands classes! They are beyond excited to now call the Salt Lake City Circus Center at Trolley Square Mall their home, and bring their dreams of this past year, and experience of the past eight years, to reality.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A big issue with spaces needed for aerial, acrobatic or cheer gym type classes is finding one with high enough ceilings. Chantel highly values the aesthetics of a space while Bryan is more concerned with functionality. Most aerial or cheer gyms are found in industrial areas because that’s the type of building needed, but they really hit the jackpot pot at Trolley Square Mall. The Circus Center is under the Whole Foods’ parking garage, which isn’t going to be a good fit for every retail store, but it serves them perfectly because they get massively high ceilings. The rig structure built within the space has 13 rig points as high as 21.5 feet, which you’re not going to find in any other studio. And because Trolley Square is such a beautiful, historic place, rich in architecture, Chantel got to play around with the industrial feel and create a space that is not only functional, but also beautiful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Salt Lake City Circus Center connects you to the vibrant world of circus arts. Offering both kids and adults, beginners to advanced students, access to a variety of circus disciplines. Aerial classes include silks, hammock, lyra, straps and trapeze, partner acrobatics classes include AcroYoga, acro dance, cheer acro and standing acrobatics, yoga sessions focus on flexibility and strength, and there’s also a full lineup of handstand and tumbling classes.
The SLCCC makes it simple to engage with a supportive community and discover your potential in a fun, professional, creative and family friendly environment. If you’re ready to train like an athlete and perform like an artist (that’s our slogan), this is the place for you!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Covid was a scary time for a lot of “mom-and-pop-stores.” Bryan and Chantel’s studio at that time provided mostly yoga classes with some aerial and acrobatic classes. As gyms started opening again, their yoga classes were sparse, but the aerial and acrobatic classes were thriving like never before. Having the chance to close and reopen at another location gave them the time to evaluate what was most needed within our community. There are so many yoga studios that provide a wonderful experience, but so few studios that offer a combination of aerial and acrobatic classes… a full line up of each… let alone to both kids and adults. It’s always scary putting your time, finances and vision on the line to try something new, but they believe they offer something truly magical to their clients that is hard to duplicate elsewhere.
