Today we’d like to introduce you to Nash Houskeeper
Hi Nash, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Yes of course! Growing up I was like every other kid who dreamed of being an accountant and doing taxes. Just kidding, I wanted to be an NBA player but because that didn’t pan out so I ended up in accounting.
In high school, I took an accounting class as an “easy” elective math course and ended up being better at than I had expected. I was offered an internship, but turned it down thinking I would take a different route for my career (hopefully something in sports)
A few years later while attending Weber State University I decided I would give accounting another shot since I was interested in the business program there and got my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. I enjoyed the program there so much I decided to do a Master of Taxation (MTAX) degree at Weber as well. Which I highly recommend to anyone who is interested in going that route. The program up there is amazing.
After graduating, I decided I wanted to open up a tax preparation business on the side focusing on individuals and small businesses. So I opened up Houskeeper Tax Services LLC at the end of 2023.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t believe anyone has a smooth road in life. I didn’t grow up with a lot of financial education and made that one of my goals life to be able gain that knowledge and help others along the way.
My family didn’t have money for me to go to college so I worked doing valet for a few years to put myself through school. It was worth the grind. I feel like you appreciate your education so much more when you have to put in that extra effort to make it happen.
Going through college during COVID was not easy either. I give kudos to anyone who was able to keep pushing through with all the craziness that the pandemic caused those few years.
Currently the challenge is building up my tax business on the side while I work my other accounting job during the day. I’ve enjoyed the challenge and have been happy with how far I’ve come in just two years of running the business. I also am planning on starting my CPA this year and I’m sure that will be a challenge.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I created Houskeeper Tax Services to help individuals and small businesses with their taxes. No one looks forward to getting their taxes done each year, but I want to change that experience. I charge competitive yet affordable prices to have your taxes done by someone who cares about you and wants to get the best tax outcome for you.
I offer offline and virtual appointments. Offline appointments are where you just upload your tax documents on the secure portal on my site and I take care of your taxes and let you know when they are ready to go and answer any questions from there. Virtual appointments occur over Microsoft Teams and I will work on your return and answer any questions you may have during that appointment.
I would say brand wise I am most proud of including my last name in the company as it is unique. Being able to honor my last name and where I come from is something I wanted included in the business.
If you schedule and appointment with me, know that I will do everything I can for you tax wise to help maximize your return. I don’t have flashy commercials or any crazy offers, but I do care about the people that trust me with their taxes. Additionally, If there are any easy tax planning items we can do to get you a better return the next year I will always throw those out to help you as well.
Currently I’m offering a $10 Fiiz gift card to anyone who refers a friend to use my services. Once your referral uses my services you’ll be sipping on some caffeine of your choice.
Also, If you mention you saw me on this platform I’ll send you a $5 Fiiz gift card if you’re a new client this year. Just for using my tax services.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I’d have to say spending summers at my Grandma’s house with my cousins as a kid was one of my favorite memories. She would take us all get Slurpee’s and we could have $1-2 dollars to spend at the dollar store. Then we would go back to her house and have Spam sandwiches and enjoy our treat and toy we picked out until our parents would come pick us up.
