Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Primavera.
Hi Zach, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
First off, thank you for having me! It has been a journey no doubt. One that I continue to wake up to forever thankful and blessed to be where I’m at today. My journey started in 2013 where I went to TomorrowWorld by myself in Atlanta, GA. Little did I know, at that very moment watching Armin van Buuren close out the main stage, that I would dedicate my entire life to music and chasing that dream of eventually being up on that very stage. The first thing I did when I got back home was buy my first standalone controller. Every second was spent on it which eventually would land me some small gigs where I was able to really hone in my skill set in front of people. I spent several years doing this until I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah..which is where my career really took off in music. Like anyone, I had to work my way up in the scene. From small bars to private events I networked as much as I could that way I could play in the bigger venues. This was a process..one that I think people need to experience because it humbles you in every way possible. I did this for a year or so before finally landing my first real gig with Live Nite Events at Soundwell SLC. My first official club gig left me hungry and wanting more. Over the next few years I was able to land a residency at SKY SLC where I’ve been blessed enough to support some of the biggest names in dance music. But yet I was still searching for more satisfaction. Being in the music scene, it’s extremely hard to progress unless you’re able to have a specific sound attached to the brand. This led me to take on the daunting task of music production. Melodic techno/progressive house is where my heart rest in the huge pool of genres. Over the course of almost two years I have dedicated every second of my life to music production and it has been the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I’ve released many tracks as well as signed records to several music record labels. My most recent signed tracks to Ethernal Records, Spiro & Nox was able to reach as high as #7 on Beatports Melodic Techno charts. It was at this moment that I knew this once dream was finally becoming a reality. Apart from production, over the last year I have played two of Utahs biggest music festivals. V2 Presents is arguably the biggest promoter in Utah and I was lucky enough to play Das energi & Get Lucky. Which was a dream come true because I was able to play alongside some of my biggest inspirations. I hang these show flyers up in my music studio along with a Insomniac Events show that I played as well this year. These are a constant reminder to always be that kid in the crowd with a dream and to never give up.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. In this industry you will receive a “no” more than you will a “yes”. Even sometimes you won’t even get a response. It takes a special type of person to be able to harness those responses and turn it into motivation to keep going. At the end of the day you need to trust the process. But also realize that you will only get results through hard work and determination. I enjoy the challenge but also enjoy the satisfaction of seeing hard work pay off. There is no better feeling than playing your own music out to a crowd. I always get choked up when I do this because I once was out in that very crowd wishing I’d be in that persons shoes. I am extremely thankful that it hasn’t been a smooth road. I have learned many lessons along the way and have such a better appreciation of where I’m at currently.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Outside of music my main job is the Air Force. I’ve been to Dubai and Poland over the years and have made some great memories along the way. I have a few more years left and I’m very excited to be out that way I can 100% focus on music. Something that most people know me for is my history with sports. I’ve been playing golf since the age of two. I played in college at Central Alabama where I was a two time All-American before transferring to The University of Mississippi. I eventually turned professional and did it full time for 7 years before stepping away to join the Air Force. I think this sets me apart from most people. Between the military and my sports background, I am wired to a routine and don’t know how to quit. My dedication and mindset is because of those two things and I know that I apply it to music single handily.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To never quit. The only way you lose in this industry is quitting. I obviously spend a lot of time in my studio working on music and I not only hang my favorite show flyers on the wall due to being proud. But more so of a constant reminder to why I love what I do and to always keep going. We all know life can be a tough road, but one thing I’ve learned is to always appreciate the people in your circle that have believed in you since day one. I have so many great friends with the same aspirations and we support each other every step of the way. Without a support circle it is extremely difficult and I owe a lot of my success to these individuals.
