Today we’d like to introduce you to Alonso Collantes
Hi Alonso, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Groove Architects began as a movement among friends—born from late-night music sessions, shared playlists, and a deep love for underground house music. Over time, what started as a fun, creative outlet among close friends naturally evolved into something more intentional. Today, the project is led by Luciano and myself (Alonso), two Peruvians who have been close friends for years and share the same passion for minimal and deep house.
We officially launched Groove Architects in June 2024 here in Park City, with a vision to bring a fresh, curated music experience to Utah’s scene. Our early parties at Premiere helped us build a loyal local following and proved that there’s a real appetite for quality underground events in this part of the country.
What sets Groove Architects apart is the attention we give to every element—from the music selection to the vibe of the space and the community we cultivate. We’re not just DJs; we see ourselves as architects of energy and connection. Right now, our focus is on growing, collaborating with new venues, and continuing to build a culture around the music we love.
This journey is still unfolding, but the foundation is solid—rooted in friendship, authenticity, and a pure passion for the groove.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all—it’s definitely been a rewarding journey, but far from smooth. One of our biggest roadblocks has been finding venues that are open and equipped for late-night events. Park City and Salt Lake have amazing spaces and energy, but the late-night scene—especially for underground music—is still growing, and there are limitations around curfews, sound restrictions, and zoning.
Another challenge has been introducing and educating people about the underground house music scene. The Utah crowd is incredibly supportive and open-minded, but minimal and deep house are still niche genres here. Part of our mission has been to create space for that sound, and help people understand and feel the vibe we’re trying to build—not just through the music, but through the full experience of our events.
That said, these challenges have pushed us to be more creative, more intentional, and more connected with our community. It’s been a grind at times, but every small win fuels our passion to keep going and keep growing the underground scene in Utah.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’re DJs, but more than that—we’re curators. What really sets us apart is our track selection. We spend countless hours digging for music, finding hidden gems that help us create unique sets with real depth and emotion. Being diggers is at the heart of what we do.
We’re proud of the energy we bring to every event. It’s never just about playing music—it’s about creating a journey, setting a vibe, and connecting with the crowd in an authentic way. We’ve stayed true to our sound and built a growing community around it, and that’s what keeps us going.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
For us, every event we put on is a risk. We invest time, money, energy, and most importantly—our reputation. There’s always a chance it doesn’t go as planned. Maybe the crowd doesn’t show up, the vibe falls flat, or something unexpected throws things off. And in this scene, one bad event can leave a lasting impression.
But that’s the game. We take those risks because we believe in what we’re doing. We know that when it does come together, the payoff isn’t just financial—it’s emotional. It’s the energy in the room, the connection with the crowd, and the memories people take home with them. That’s what makes it all worth it.
So yeah, we see risk as part of the process. It keeps us sharp, humble, and always striving to improve.
