Life & Work with Sarah Larsen of Salt Lake City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Larsen

Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
At 7 years old, my sister (who was taking a photography class) asked me to be her muse/model. Together, we created many concepts and executed them. Years of modeling with her, along with learning the magic and behind the lens side of photography, I am still as ever enamored by the idea of freezing a moment of time to relive later, whilst inspiring others to also create.

Inspiring others in and of itself is why I create. The power that creation holds and the aid it has in building ones confidence in themself (whatever it is that they create), is everything. Creating heals the soul. I believe my one true purpose is to build others up and show them that with hard work, you can attain anything. I started reaching out to photographers years after learning the photography back end side of things, realizing I was of better use in front of the camera helping photographers see their dream/vision come to life rather than behind it struggling to edit, feeling my inspiration go down.

You have to be real with yourself in life about what you like and don’t. What you need and don’t… constantly asking yourself ‘why’? That is how I got to where I am. I currently work for myself, protecting families in insurance working with over 50+ companies to do so. I model WHENEVER AND WHEREVER I can, constantly creating more than I can hardly even keep up with posting it all! It is my way of creating what is in my heart and head. I find an indescribable joy in getting to work with other talented individuals, letting what’s in our heart and head come into reality.

I don’t see myself ever stopping. My love for what I do, the freedom of working everywhere and anywhere at anytime absolutely keeps me going day to day. I know each of us has a ‘pipe dream’ we are working towards. Just know from a girl who has taken the time to truly learn how to manifest, it is possible to have basically everything you want. You kind of owe it to yourself to seize it and go get it. Baby steps are important. If you are baby stepping every day towards what you want, you are going to get there a lot faster (or at all), in ways that others who never try, won’t.

I feel so blessed to be in my dream residence, with my dream soul mate, cat mom to I have to say the best baby in the world. Life has turns and twists, but again, if you are real with your ‘why’, trust in yourself to get everything you put your mind to, and live life like it is already in your hands, one day you will look up and everything you wanted 10 years ago will be happening to you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I say, twists and turns for sure. I would say my biggest downfall is loss of inspiration at any given moment. I feel, all artists and business owners struggle with this. Hey, anyone does, right? The biggest favor you can give yourself though is in these moments (I’ll say it again even though at this point I probably sound like a broken record), remember your ‘WHY’.

Your ‘why’, will get you through your darkest and best days. It will be the thing that keeps you going when all else seems impossible to handle. In these times where it all seems too hard to handle, remember that you have been okay, so you WILL be okay! You are more than okay and you will THRIVE!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
While protecting families financial future, I am a ‘lone wolf’ as the person I collaborate most with at work says. Which in insurance, is a very hard way to be. I have taught myself a lot but I am constantly learning and growing with and from others. My biggest motto is that you constantly need to be learning and growing, otherwise you are stagnant and nothing is more scary than being in a place that you cannot grow.

I am proud to say that I am in the 8% of people who make it as long as I have in insurance. I have been able to protect hundreds of people at this point and I am so happy to say their families will have the money they need to handle some of the hardest parts of life.

I have a need for freedom. It is my ‘why’ along with inspiring others. Being able to do things the way I envision has always been what drives me, which is why I love the world of photography and will continue to always create.

I believe if you have a set goal, it is not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. You can read every book on a subject, go to school for something and be the most qualified for the position, but it is the ones who are actually creating and baby stepping their way there, even if they know less than you do or are less qualified than you, who will actually attain any given thing. START. Start whatever you have in your heart and head TODAY! You will see in no time at all with consistent work even if the steps are micro steps, that your work pays off.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the modeling/photography industry basically the same as it always has been though it evolves with the times and is definitely getting more body positive which is always nice to see. It is a fast paced, incredibly hard industry to be a part of, but equally rewarding. To have a vision and be able to see it come to life is something I feel everyone with a dream and the ambition to see it through deserves.

With insurance, the industry is always changing and shifting. It’s important to know that if you have the dream to work from anywhere and do work that makes a difference in peoples lives in a big way down the road, it is possible. It is hard to stay in as people are so used to a 9-5 guaranteed paycheck, steady and expected, but if you have the grit to keep on keepin’ on, you can make it in the photography industry, insurance industry, or any industry you have your mind set on.

All my love and good luck to all you readers!
