Today we’d like to introduce you to Choose Kindness Pleasant Grove Organization.
Hi Choose Kindness Pleasant Grove Organization, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Choose Kindness PG is a non-profit organization that promotes a culture of kindness in our community. We believe in the need for and the power of kindness! We work hand in hand with the city, businesses, and every school in Pleasant Grove through their Choose Kindness programs to create awareness, education, and opportunities to spread intentional kindness every day. February was proclaimed as Choose Kindness Month in Pleasant Grove. We spent the month serving and reaching out in acts of kindness. In February, we sent out a ripple of kindness to spread through our community and bless many lives. We shared lunches and coats with 100 homeless individuals to help them stay warm. We made 100 kits of love for mothers with babies in the NICU. We spread 100 vases of flowers to brighten the day of our friends and neighbors. We gave 100 comfort kits to bless children in the hospital. Our teachers sent out hundreds of kind notes to their students, noticing the good in them. We also extended our support to families who had been impacted by the fires in LA County, as well as refugee families in the state of Utah. We spread messages of kindness through our community through yard signs, social media posts, sweatshirts, and service projects. We continue to share this message throughout the year through school visits, kindness club meetings, and community events. Our goal is to touch every community member in one way or another with kindness. Join us in our efforts to be intentional in spreading kindness through our communities! Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Choose Kindness PG has certainly come with its challenges. One of the first hurdles we encountered was gaining the support of community leaders, and together envisioning a kinder future. In the beginning we involved local school officials and together started to build our program into what it is today. Funding is also a constant challenge. We are a volunteer organization and rely on donations from our city and many generous sponsors who believe in the power of kindness.
Another obstacle we are constantly facing is finding and retaining volunteers. We have had many people over the years who have shown up and generously contributed their time and talents to bless our efforts. And thanks to our dedicated and talented committee, we are able to keep moving these programs forward.
Overall, the biggest lesson we’ve learned is that overcoming these challenges requires working together. Whether it’s collaborating with city leaders, local businesses or volunteers, our success has come from building strong partnerships and fostering a collective effort toward our mission. Working together is key to success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are so proud of the many Choose Kindness Clubs that run in our local elementary, middle and high schools. The students who attend and the leaders and parents who show up and teach these monthly lessons of kindness are pivotal to our success. To grow a kind community, we must involve the children!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Each year, Choose Kindness PG provides an incredible opportunity for both high school and elementary students to grow and learn together. High school students from the Kindness Club at Pleasant Grove High School prepare and teach lessons on kindness at local elementary schools. Through this experience, they not only strengthen their understanding of kindness but also develop valuable skills in teaching, classroom management and leadership. They learn how to engage young students, model positive behavior, and effectively lead a group. At the same time the elementary students gain valuable lessons about kindness and empathy from their older peers, which help shape their character and actions. It’s a mutually enriching experience. These kinds of efforts can create lasting impacts and help to build a strong community. It is rewarding for the high school students to see how their lessons inspire the younger kids.
