Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Nutting.
Hi Thomas, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I made the move to Park City in 1999, right after graduating from college in Vermont with a group of friends. We traveled to Utah for winter break where I discovered the legendary skiing that this place is known for. I truly embraced my time as a ski bum, working in ski shops during the winter and hitting the slopes over 100 days each year. In the summers, I started working for a local painting company, drawing on the time I spent in my teenage years helping my uncle, a builder, which gave me plenty of exposure to home construction.
Once I met my wife and welcomed our second child, I realized it was time to turn my dream of owning a business into a reality. In 2017, I took the leap and started Park City Paint Crew, starting with just me and one other guy handling all the painting. Fast forward to today, and I’ve expanded the team to 20 employees, allowing us to contribute to some amazing new construction homes and remodels. I take great pride in running a small business in the town I’ve proudly called home for 25 years!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a business has certainly come with its challenges. Having said that, I feel that both my experience working in high-end retail and the network of relationships I’ve made over the past 25 years in Park City have prepared me well for to thrive in this industry. It’s crucial to me that my employees feel valued and take pride in their work, because a positive workplace culture leads to better outcomes for everyone. My reputation among customers in our small town is built on respect and a keen attention to detail, and I work hard to maintain it. While the journey hasn’t always been smooth, I’ve learned invaluable lessons along the way, which have shaped both my business approach and my commitment to excellence.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I appreciate the opportunity to tell you more about us. We really do just about anything when it comes to making your homes look more beautiful, whether that be interior and exterior painting and staining, garage floors, decorative finishes, woodwork refinishing, you name it. The painters we employ have decades of experience doing all these kinds of projects, and making sure that we leave you with clean, gorgeous homes. We’re obviously a local company, and so we’ll always be here to fix any issues or answer any questions that you may have.
There are a few things that set us apart from other companies in the area, and I think the main thing is our personability. We aren’t some stuffy, faceless corporate painting company. We are a small local team dedicated to each and every customer, and I believe our work shows that. We take pride in offering a lot of different services, and at a price point that provides good value to our customers.
How do you think about luck?
I’m a true believer that everything happens for a reason whether it is good or bad luck. I’ve had my fair share of bad luck as well as good. At the end of the day, it’s all about perspective. All I can do is look at the bright side, take every bad luck as a learning opportunity.
In life, I feel incredibly fortunate to be building a future for myself and my family in a town I truly love. When it comes to my business, I owe everything to my amazing team—their dedication and hard work are the foundation of our success. I’ve also been lucky to form meaningful connections that have brought invaluable team members and dependable local contractors into my circle—people who count on us just as much as we count on them.
