Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Foeller.
Hi Taylor, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved making charcuterie boards. Every time I was invited to an event, from birthday parties to Galentines Day, I would make a charcuterie board. I started to get better at making them and found myself proud of my work. I was in times of financial strain and wanted to capitalize upon my talent! I started my instagram page, and thanks to the support of my friends, have built a small following. I have only been hired for one event thus far, which I am so excited about. I have made the rest of my boards for free in order to get my name out there! I don’t really mind this though, as I love making boards and providing food for folks. I am still growing my skills and have been branching out to try and use more local ingredients. I really look forward to farmers markets so I can really access sustainable, family owned ingredients!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth, and I have a long way to go! Charcuterie boards are not cheap to assemble, and doing it unpaid for events has been a good way to make connections but has been costly. It’s also been difficult to gain much traction, especially because I am working full-time and don’t have much time or funds I can dedicate to it! However, I bring a charcuterie board to events every chance I can, just to maintain some of the momentum. I also sometimes hit creative roadblocks when it comes to assembly—it is so fun to experiment, though, and ultimately create a board I am proud of.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Charcuterie boards are an edible art form with limitless possibilities. It is not just about assembly, but finding the perfect combination of ingredients to create unique and satisfying combinations. I work hard to not only create a visually pleasing arrangement but to also provide people the chance to enjoy flavors and combinations they would never think to try. I am incredibly proud of my ability to create unique and tasty experiences! I am set apart from others because I am super allergen conscious, and specialize in gluten-free and celiac friendly boards. I also jump at opportunities to create fruit boards, candy boards, and other non-traditional charcuterie boards!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck plays a part of every life and business! I have been lucky to have supportive friends who boost my business and jump at opportunities to give me a platform. I have been lucky to have enough funding to produce free charcuterie boards. I have been lucky to find myself in Salt Lake and to have the ability to invest in myself and my future. I feel incredibly lucky all of the time—my life is a blessing and each day I get to wake up and try again I am lucky!
