Daily Inspiration: Meet Tienna Rainey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tienna Rainey.

Hi Tienna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started massage school when I was 19 years old at Renaissance school of Massage Therapy. I received complete training in Cranial Sacral therapy at this particular school. This was an extra special experience because my great aunt is the owner of the school, and I got to learn the curriculum from some of my family members. After I passed my state exam and became licensed I worked for Utah Spinal Care. After a few months I was offered the opportunity to work in New Zealand for three and a half months. I learned a few techniques on holistic pulsing during my time in Pohara, at the Health and Wellness Spa. When I returned I continues my experience working with multiple chiropractors at Utah Spinal Care. Alta Mountain Chiropracted, and Aspen Falls Spinal care. After gathering years of experience and building my own clientele in the mean time, I decided to start my own massage practice in 2022. I am thrilled to be able to offer clients a tailored experience in a space of my own.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning your own business can be very difficult if you are not self motivated. I have realized to make sure to dedicate certain days and times to promote my business. Making sure you are involved in your community and supporting other small businesses is very helpful in marketing as well. Budgeting for a new business can also be a little difficult. The first space I rented I invested a lot of money and had a very hard year financial wise. I found a new space that opened up in a beautiful building and was able to move and save money. Making sure you know that there will be slow periods and learning to prepare accordingly is very important. I also have had many personal trials through my time as an independent business. It has been hard in times of deep pain to keep my business going. I’ve been able to overcome these times of hardship with the support of family and friends, as well as making sure to prioritize self-care. Avoiding burnout is very important in Massage Therapy, as it is a very intimate and personal profession. I am thankful to have made it this far and all the knowledge I gained from these hard times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have enjoyed creating a practice that I feel is the most beneficial to my clients. Mixing body work with energy work, I target not only the body but also the mind. Over the years I have found when you are able to quiet the mind, the body is able to release muscle tension much easier. Cranial Sacral Therapy has helped clients release deep inner emotions that have caused pain and stress to the body. Combining this technique with deep tissue skills encapsulates the entirety of our health. Many clients feel a sense of being renewed, refreshed, and cleared of all stress when they are leaving appointments.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I always loved playing in my grandmothers backyard with my brother and cousins. This backyard was absolutely amazing, with plenty of space for games and sports. We also enjoyed jumping on the trampoline and playing with her overweight rottweiler that I would ride like a horse when I was little. Dragonflies filled the air at dusk and we would all try to catch those little flying friends. Spending time outdoors and soaking up the sun has and always will be my favorite way to spend the day.
