Today we’d like to introduce you to Brigate Morte.
Brigate, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Brigate Morte began as a personal creative project: a fusion of music, satire, and artificial intelligence. Initially a solo endeavor, it evolved into a collaborative project: Rocco Cocchia, our adept social media manager; Princi F€$$@, our meticulous digital specialist; and Kiav Hata, our charismatic “image guy.” Together, we form a collective that challenges traditional notions of music production.
Our mission is to democratize music creation through AI, producing songs that are both humorous and reflective of our hometown, Salerno.
The name “Brigate Morte” is a nod to historical movements, symbolizing our rebellious stance against the conventional music industry’s resistance to technological innovation. We view AI not as a threat but as a tool for creative liberation, despite the skepticism of some traditionalists.
Today, Brigate Morte is more than a music project; it’s a community of over 19k individuals who engage with our work and share our vision of a more inclusive and innovative musical landscape.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our journey has been anything but smooth. Along the way we’ve hit a number of roadblocks.
There are technical limits and cost: every time we ask an AI model to generate a riff or a verse, there is a cost and roughly 80% of what comes out ends up in the trash. It feels like paying €0.10 for every guitar‐chord experiment, only to discover it sounds terrible and you have to start over. So it can be both expensive and soul-crushing, especially when you’re bootstrapping on a shoestring budget.
Furthermore, some listeners and fellow musicians assumed we were “cheating” or “stealing” because we use AI. We’ve been labeled inauthentic, urged to drop live singers, even told to stick to making memes instead of music. Early on, someone didn’t even realize an entire EP was AI-generated, clear sign of how deeply rooted the prejudice is.
Building an audience isn’t easy. Transforming curiosity into a loyal community took time. There’s no “AI-only band” handbook, so we learned by doing: posting reels about neighborhoods around Salerno, riding the wave of word of mouth.
Each setback has forced us to sharpen our tools, sharpen our message, and strengthen our community. In fact, the obstacles we’ve encountered along the way have only made Brigate Morte more resilient, and a little more rebellious.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are Brigate Morte, an independent creative collective based in Salerno that produces music, visuals and performances entirely through artificial intelligence.
People know us for our goliardic storytelling, we use local dialect, humor and irreverence. We challenge notions of “authenticity” and spark conversations about AI’s role in art.
We are extremely proud of the thousands of listens to our songs. Our community is constantly growing, members who co-create with us and share ideas.
We stand out for our total transparency: we openly declare every note as AI-generated, inviting listeners to judge on content, not origin.
The Brigate Morte project has no support from the big labels, no controller: only suggestions and our collective imagination.
In a music world still wary of algorithms, Brigate Morte stands at the forefron, showing that AI can be a tool for rebellion, community and authentic expression.
How do you define success?
For us, success is measured in impact, community and authentic expression:
If our AI-crafted chords and dialect-laced lyrics can spark that moment of recognition, we’ve succeeded.
Reaching over 19,000 followers has been amazing, but the real win is seeing them become active users. When people stop being passive listeners and start co-creating, that’s when we know we’re on the right path.
Success is having the courage to challenge preconceptions, to use AI not as a shortcut, but as a battle flag in a creative insurrection. If our work stimulates debate about what art can be, then we are proud of our work.
In short, success to us is making art that provokes, connects and endures.
