Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have over 10 years of teaching experience through the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association and have certified thousands of people in First Aid, CPR, and AED usage. Through years of teaching, I realized that the most invested participants are always new and expecting parents. They are willing to sit through the six-hour class just to get the one hour of infant and baby information that they are looking for.
After a decade, I was starting to look for a possible career change when my brother and sister-in-law got pregnant. My wife thought it would be a fun idea to tailor a CPR class to help prepare them for the wild new adventure of parenthood. Like most new parents, they had a lot of fears and questions around the “what if…” scenarios. Through competence comes confidence. Knowing how to respond to these emergency situations helped calm those fears and gave them a plan of action. That is how Baby Safe CPR was born! I started it to give time-poor new parents a more convenient and hands-on option to learn the life-saving knowledge of infant and child CPR and choking intervention.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When you are a team of one, there are always little struggles. You are your own task master and you wear all of the entrepreneurial hats, instructor, marketer, web designer etc. I have learned a lot of new skills trying to get Baby Safe CPR off the ground! Some of them I am grateful for, some of them I am happy to freelance out for the rest of eternity and never do again.
As you know, we’re big fans of Baby Safe CPR. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I started Baby Safe CPR to give time-poor new parents a more convenient and hands-on option to learn the life-saving knowledge of infant and child CPR and choking intervention. Baby Safe CPR has tailored its class to focus specifically on infant and baby safety. All of the information you want, in your home, on your time.
I have a few different offerings.
Baby Safety Class: With the Baby Safety Class, I come to you! Book the date and time, I will show up at your home with mannequins in hand. The mannequins have live feedback and read compression depth, compression rate, and gauge rescue breaths. I like to think of this class option like a tupperware party. Clients generally get the in-laws, the babysitter, the neighbor, or anyone else who will be helping them along the parenthood journey, and learn these skills from their home, on their own time, with a live instructor. On-Demand Class: I also offer an on-demand class. I recently partnered with a wonderful doula group Birthsmarter to produce a self-paced, pre-recorded class. Busy people can take the class in sections if they need, it comes with a workbook as well to help with information retention and aid in the makings of an emergency action plan. Corporate Class: I also offer corporate classes. Many corporations have wellness initiatives, new parent groups, lunch and learns, etc. I shave the class down to be taught over zoom and am available to answer any questions. This also comes with the on-demand class access for three months for the class participants. Email for more details.
