Hidden Gems: Meet Megan Blakelock of Blakelock Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Blakelock.

Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Megan Blakelock: Family Law with Heart, Humor, and a Whole Lot of Grit

Megan’s passion for family law comes from a genuine desire to support people during life’s most challenging moments. A respected Utah attorney, she is known for her calm confidence, legal smarts, and the kind of empathy that puts clients instantly at ease. Officially joining the Utah State Bar in 2019 after earning her law degree from Willamette University College of Law, Megan had already gained valuable experience since 2011 working alongside her powerhouse mother-in-law, Rose Blakelock, learning firsthand what it takes to guide families through some of their toughest moments.

Clients frequently praise Megan for her kindness, understanding, and proficiency in navigating even the most difficult cases with confidence and poise. Whether she’s negotiating a settlement or stepping into court, Megan brings a steady hand and a sharp mind, all wrapped in a demeanor that says, “We’ve got this.”

In 2014, Megan married Rose’s youngest son (yep, it’s a family affair), and together they’re raising three lively kids who fill their home with laughter, energy, and just the right amount of delightful chaos. Her family is the center of her world—and also a pretty good reminder of why her work matters so much.

“I feel so grateful to help people navigate some of the most emotional challenges of their lives,” Megan says. “And sometimes, what they need most is someone who can be honest and straightforward while still showing compassion and understanding.”

Megan is an active member of the Affiliation of Family and Conciliation Courts, the Provo Rotary Club, the Utah State Bar, the Central Utah Bar Association, and the Family Law Section of the Utah State Bar. These connections keep her up to date on the law and the community—and keep her calendar very full.

Whether she’s helping a parent regain time with their child, guiding a client through a peaceful divorce, or delivering tough love with a sense of humor, Megan Blakelock brings a rare mix of legal skill, heart, and real-life perspective to the table. If you’re going through a family law issue, she’s exactly the kind of attorney you want in your corner—smart, steady, and just the right amount of sassy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When asked about the challenges she’s faced in her practice, Megan shared the following reflection:

“One of the biggest challenges in family law — and in running a practice — is learning how to show up with both strength and authenticity. Early in my career, I spent a lot of time figuring out how to balance professionalism with personality, especially in a field where emotions run high and every word carries weight. Over time, I’ve come to realize that my ability to lead with emotional intelligence, empathy, and straight talk is a strategic skill that I’ve practiced and worked hard to develop.

Whether I’m in a courtroom or a consultation, I’ve found that what truly helps clients feel supported and understood is a mix of clear guidance, genuine compassion, and (when appropriate) a little humor to cut the tension. That combination allows me to connect with people in a real way while still delivering strong, results-driven advocacy. Helping people navigate some of their most sensitive life transitions is not always easy work, but it’s meaningful, rewarding, and I’ve learned so much from my clients and their experiences.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Over the past year, Megan has taken on a new challenge: reimagining how her firm shows up in the digital world. In October 2024, she led a full rebrand to better reflect the heart of the practice—a modern, client-centered firm grounded in compassion, clarity, and strength. That vision came to life with the launch of a new website in April 2025, a project she managed while also juggling a full caseload. Writing copy, reviewing designs, and creating new resources—all while practicing law—was no small feat.

But for Megan, the effort has been more than worthwhile. In addition to the rebrand, she’s expanded the firm’s presence on social media and begun building out educational tools like a family law blog, downloadable guides, and client workbooks to make legal information more accessible and less intimidating. She believes strongly in demystifying the legal process, and this new digital direction reflects that commitment. It’s been a steep (and at times vulnerable) learning curve, but Megan is proud of the growth—and excited for what’s next.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Before law school, Megan earned her undergraduate degree in psychology while cheerleading for both the University of Utah and Utah Valley University. She also served in student government, proving early on that she could rally a crowd and hold her own in a leadership meeting. That background in psychology and leadership turned out to be the perfect prep for family law, where understanding people is half the battle—and the other half is not flinching when things get emotional.

If you told Megan Blakelock back in her cheerleading days that she’d end up arguing custody schedules instead of choreographing halftime routines, she might’ve raised an eyebrow. But life has a funny way of preparing you for the unexpected—and as it turns out, balancing on a pyramid and wrangling toddlers weren’t bad training for a career in family law.
