Conversations with Abby Reaves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Reaves.

Hi Abby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into local travel blogging started with a love for photography and storytelling. I’ve always been someone who finds magic in the small details: sunlight hitting a trail just right, the charm of a quiet coffee shop, or the feel of the mountains when you take a minute to just sit and think. I started sharing little snippets of my weekend adventures on social media, mostly photos of national parks and recommendations of hikes in the area. It helps that I always have a camera on me!

Over time, friends and followers began asking for more details. Where a photo was taken, what the place was like, what I’d recommend doing there. That encouragement nudged me to create a space where I could dive deeper into those experiences. That’s how my blog, Abby Erin Blog, was born. I focus on places that are often overlooked or underappreciated. Hidden gems, local eats, and everyday adventures that make a place feel alive. I especially focus on Utah’s national parks.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not always smooth, but I think that’s part of the story, too. One of the biggest challenges has been finding the balance between creativity and consistency. As much as I love exploring and photographing new places, life can get busy, and there have been seasons where I’ve had to slow down or step back from posting regularly. Learning to be okay with that, and to create without pressure, has been a big part of my growth.

Another challenge has been imposter syndrome, wondering if what I’m sharing is “good enough” or if people will care. It’s easy to compare yourself to others in the blogging space, especially when you’re doing it solo and learning as you go. But over time, I’ve learned to trust my own voice and remember why I started: to connect, to create, and to celebrate the beauty in everyday places.

Even through the challenges, I’ve found that the process has made me more confident, more present, and more connected to my community.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At its heart, my work is about celebrating local life through storytelling and photography. I run a local travel and lifestyle blog where I spotlight small towns, hidden gems, local businesses, nature trails, and everyday moments that often go unnoticed. I specialize in capturing places and people whether it’s through photography, writing, or a mix of both.

I’m also a family and wedding photographer first and foremost. This is what jumpstarted my love of travel blogging in the first place. I love being there during life’s big moments to capture them forever.

I’m most proud of the connections this blog has helped me make. It’s led to some amazing conversations, collaborations with small businesses, and messages from readers who say they were inspired to explore their own hometowns with fresh eyes. That’s the kind of impact that keeps me going, knowing that something I created encouraged someone else to see the wonder in their everyday world.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Curiosity, without a doubt. I think that genuine desire to explore, notice, and ask questions is what fuels everything I do. Curiosity keeps things fresh and authentic. It reminds me to stay open, pay attention, and dig deeper than the surface.

I’d also say consistency in showing up, even in small ways, has been really important. Not every post has to be perfect or polished, but making space for creativity on a regular basis has helped me stay connected to my vision and grow over time.
