Rising Stars: Meet Reed Parkinson of Provo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reed Parkinson.

Reed, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always wanted to work in Medicine since my earliest memories. I did my residency for Internal Medicine in Denver Colorado and got some very good training from many wonderful doctors there. I was able to see a large volume of patients and diseases helping prepare me for my own clinic and hospital work in the future. Denver provided great exposure to a lot of different things in the world for me.
My wife wanted to be close to family so we ended up back in Provo where I initially started working for a large clinic for a few years. This wasn’t the greatest fit for me though, so I left and worked full time as a Hospitalist at the IHC Hospital in Murray for a time. After that I opened my own independent practice in (2024) in Provo and I’m working on growing this currently.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding out that a big clinic/corporation was not for me was a hard transition. I like to chat and take a longer time with people and this isn’t always the best way to make more money. Now that I have my own clinic I can take the amount of time I feel is needed.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do Internal Medicine which is general primary care for any adult age 18 or older and I treat a very wide variety of things from kidney issues to cancer to depression to ADHD to skin issues to diabetes. I enjoy the variety of Internal Medicine and the ability to help people with almost anything in their life.
I emphasize mental health and feel that this is a part of everyone’s care plan. I strongly believe that the better you understand your brain, the better your life will be.
I personally hate going to the doctors office as it can be very stressful, scary, and unpredictable. I try very hard to make my office more comfortable and my visits as easy going as possible.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Provo is home to two large universities which is great for growth and there’s a huge population of incredibly well educated people. This leads to interesting conversations with interesting people.
There’s tons of hiking in Utah County, but most of it is straight up the side of a mountain. I prefer lazier easier hikes.
