Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Eggen.
Hi Benjamin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in medicine started with the Air Force where I was a Pararescuman, (PJ). Part of the special forces curriculum was an advanced paramedic certification specializing in combat trauma medicine. I was deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq and Haiti during my military career. After completing my service with the USAF, I decided to go into dentistry using the GI Bill. I attended Columbia University, and Montana State for undergrad, then was accepted to A.T. Still in Mesa, AZ for dental school, a public health institution. In 2021 Wayne Community Health Center hired me as the dentist and eventually director of the Panguitch, UT location. After 2 years of public health service I started my own practice Eggen Dental in Cedar City, UT.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Acceptance to dental school was challenging. The application process was daunting but I was selected from a pool of three thousand applicants to the program I went to and joined the class of 75 students.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a general dentist in Cedar City and I love what I do. The artistic side of dentistry is appealing to me and keeps me always striving for a higher level of care. I enjoy aesthetic cases and helping keep my patients heathy. One of my favorite parts of dentistry is problem solving and making dental care as easy and attainable as possible for the community.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Digital dentistry has grown leaps and bounds, this includes AI with smile design, the capabilities we have as general dentists have been a fantastic advancement in the dental world! At Eggen Dental we do almost everything digitally and it really makes patients happy and comfortable during dental visits. There is no doubt that this shift into the digital world is going to continue and I’m excited for the future of this profession.
