Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Wortman.
Hi Brian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Virginia. Once I graduated high school, I Joined the U.S. Marine Corps where I was honorably discharged after 8 yrs of active-duty service. I worked for a company that brought me here to Utah and after 3 yrs working here in Utah my job was complete, and I was supposed to move back to Va. I enjoyed Utah so much that I left that job and applied for a local law enforcement agency. I was hired by Provo Police where I honorably served for 6 Years. With my background and training in the Marine corps I pursued the Metro SWAT team where I was immediately brought on as a Metro SWAT team sniper.
I was brought up hunting and being outdoors which continued through my entire life, that is one of the reasons I loved Utah so much. When hunting or hiking I found that I really didn’t have a comfortable way to carry my firearm while also carrying a binocular case, backpack, and rifle. I had a solution in my head but could not find anything that was on the market.
I started putting my idea to life using cardboard to come up with a design. Once I had a design, I purchased all the equipment to make the very first Bino pack holster out of Kydex. Next was naming the business, I wanted to incorporate what I was so passionate about. The U.S. Marine Corps motto is “Semper Fidelis” which is Latin for “Always Faithful”. So, I was cross referencing the Latin meaning for “Sniper” which kept referencing to “Venandi” meaning “Hunter” which was perfect and ” Venandi Holsters” was born
My wife and I decided we were going to try to patent the design. We hired a Patent Attorney and after countless meetings and emails over the course of about a year I was finally “Patent Pending” which means I could advertise and show people my idea. the actual Patent process took about 3 years. I now own the Patent for the “Bino Pack Holster” for 2 years it was just a part time job along with being a Provo City police officer. I would fulfill orders in the evenings after work and on weekends. As of Sept of 2023, I decided to quit the Provo Police Department to pursue my *Patented* Holster and Venandi Holsters full time.
I worked full time out of a detached garage located at our house. Venandi Holsters started growing to where I was falling behind no matter how many hours I worked.
So, we decided that we were at a point where we needed an actual store front and larger shop. We found our current location in Springville UT and received the keys on June 1, 2024. We now have several employees and we ship worldwide. I still feel like I’m going to wake up one day and this all be just a dream.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, this was not a smooth road. I’m from a small town in Va, where I grew up working on a farm. Both of my parents were hard workers and taught me the value of a dollar and nothing is given to you. if you set your mind to something no one can stop you from getting it other than yourself.
With the *Patented* Bino Pack Holster being my design, I have to constantly be working on new designs, issues and always trying to make my product better. This google cannot solve for me.
