Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Osorio.
Karina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Nañapuras is a family business with nearly 40 years of history, originally started by my mother in Peru. She has taught me everything about this craft and continues to guide me to this day; ever since I was a 7-year-old girl learning by her side.
I grew up surrounded by a deep appreciation for our culture, textiles, and the use of alpaca and sheep wool. Here in the U.S., I continue our family tradition and share it with others through Nañapuras, a business rooted in heritage, craftsmanship, and connection.
Everything we create is handmade using natural, sustainable fibers and traditional Peruvian techniques — including plant-based dyes and weaving on vertical looms passed down since Inca times.
Today, I carry this journey forward with pride, while teaching my daughters the same values my mother taught me: love for our roots, respect for the environment, and pride in handmade work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting and growing a business comes with many challenges, from learning how the market works, building a customer base, to navigating legal and financial systems, all while raising a family.
At times, it was overwhelming, especially balancing my roles as a mother and entrepreneur. There were moments of doubt and fatigue, but my passion for our tradition and the unwavering support of my family kept me moving forward. Every challenge taught me valuable lessons, and today I feel stronger and more confident because of those experiences.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our business specializes in handmade products using natural fibers like alpaca and sheep wool, including hats, sweaters, scarves, blankets, ponchos, sweaters and embroidered pieces for children. Each item blends tradition with modern design and careful attention to detail.
What sets us apart is our commitment to artisanal techniques passed down through generations, along with authentic, sustainable quality. We’re proud to connect our customers with culture and warmth in every product.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Yes! There are a few resources that have helped me not just in business, but in becoming a better person overall.
Books like “Sell with a Story” and “Building a StoryBrand” taught me how to connect with people from the heart; something that’s helped me feel more confident when sharing my work and talking to others.
Canva has been such a gift for designing my visuals, while CapCut helps me create engaging videos to share my products and market events online. Both allow me to express my creativity and bring my ideas to life, even while juggling so many roles.
All of these tools have supported me through moments of doubt and reminded me why I started.
They’ve helped me stay true to my values and keep growing.
