Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Meyerhoff.
Hi Peter, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Peter “Chappy” Meyerhoff grew up in an affluent family, but his life took a dramatic turn when he became addicted to crystal meth at age 15. In order to sustain his drug habit, he turned to non-violent robberies and, by 18, had stolen more than $1 million in merchandise. At one point, influenced by the movie Gone in 60 Seconds, he even used bolt cutters to steal a brand-new Mercedes-Benz while under the influence of meth.
Eventually arrested for burglarizing the home of one of Phoenix’s wealthiest residents, Meyerhoff was sentenced to 12 years in a high-security prison, where he found himself surrounded by violent criminals.
To survive in prison’s harsh environment—fraught with gangs and violence—he transformed himself physically, building up from 144 pounds to 264 pounds of muscle through intense workouts and leveraging boxing skills taught by his uncle. By age 23, he became the “Shot Caller,” earning respect and notoriety through his fighting prowess. This earned him a stint in solitary confinement for the final 11 months of his sentence.
Upon release at age 30, Meyerhoff resolved to leave behind the destructive cycle of addiction and crime. The book chronicles his pivot toward a life filled with faith, purpose, freedom, and ultimately, financial success as a legitimate businessperson. He credits his family’s love and his faith as pivotal to his transformation—from a felon to a millionaire.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My life has been filled with challenges, mistakes, and lessons that at times felt impossible to overcome.
I became addicted to drugs, began drinking. I started abusing all of that, it instantly spiraled into so much more. By the age of 18 had had stolen over $1 million in jewelry, clothes, and cars. I was arrested and thrown into jail at 140lbs.
But that made me into the person I am today. The setbacks taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of taking accountability for my actions. Without it I don’t know where I would be, and I’m grateful for that.
We’ve been impressed with RollCallwithChappy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Roll Call with Chappy is a self-improvement and mental health podcast featuring raw, heartfelt conversations. My guests share powerful stories around addiction, trauma, healing, entrepreneurship, and personal transformation. Each episode delivers actionable insights, practical tools, and motivation toward sobriety and self-authenticity.
What sets this podcast apart from most is the raw emotion. Everyone I bring on has had a rough past and has had to climb from the bottom of the bottom to get where they are now. Everyone and anyone can learn a thing or two from each episode.
I am most proud of the podcast because of how many people I help through each episode. Each episode of my podcast is hosted in every tablet in every Prison across the United States. I have prisoners that write me every week explaining how my podcast has helped them and has encouraged them to make a life for themselves when they leave the Prison walls.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has played every role in my life. From the start to the beginning. Technically everyone is lucky, being alive is a blessing in itself.
Good luck has gotten me to where I am today outside of prison.
While bad luck is the reason I ended up in prison for well over 12 years.
